We're looking to develop further our apps for those joining the truly wonderful world of being a parent for the very first time and - no promises - we'd like to check what sort of content (from articles to specific tools, links and advice) new parents and new parents to be would like to see in the perfect apps for new parents.

Please share your do's and don't's below and we will add them to the list of things to consider/try and squeeze in. If there's an app you love please share what feature gets you giving it 5 stars, or something you'd simply love to see, we'd love to know what it is.

Would be super helpful if your response you could add in the stage of parenthood you're at (from TTCing 1st child to parent of three toddlers etc)

thanks

I like batteries suggestion of what they ate and the app to make helpful suggestions - brilliant!! I have a 6 month old and a 3 year old and would use it for both.

I would find it really helpful to have a basic children's health app that I can trust. I have a 10 month old and went to GP today concerned about bacterial conjunctivitis. I couldn't find anything definitive online about how much swelling/discharge there needs to be for it to need treatment and pharmacist won't advise on under-2s. GP was lovely and clarified when they give antibiotics and what specific symptoms need urgent attention. I HATE using up GP appointments and a simple collection of info on common ailments, with pictures, that was approved by NHS would have meant I didn't need one today. If you could add in tried and tested home remedies so much the better!

I'd love an app that had recipes for both weaning/baby food and adult meals, made from the same ingredients. So grown-up lasagne, and baby food, made from the same ingredients.

I have DD age 1 and DS age 3.

Agree with PP about something similar to the Ovia app, but less American! lol I love seeing what size baby is every week, but sometimes I look at it and have no idea what said animal/patisserie item is! Something that maybe prompts you to take a weekly "bump" picture and then when babas born makes a little video/montage would be cute too

An app with good pregnancy exercise routines. Not just a list, but a workout with spoken instructions, or a video, and a workout tracker, and a work out reminder. ....or just a "do a walk" reminder. There's so much advice saying "keep active" but what does that mean? Is doing chores around the house and going to the supermarket enough- these things involve a lot of walking. Or is it important to go for a walk on top of these things?

An app that will convince the baby to sleep until 10am so we can have a lie in!

A guide on how to be a good parent.

I'd love an app where one would be able to put in whatever little one has eaten that day and be able to see if all the nutrients are ok or need improvement. Its hard not to worry sometimes when you are not completely sure if little one is getting everything they need.

A weaning app with suggestions and recipes would be great. I also think a price comparison type site e.g. nappy prices etc. Would be good. I think a child health one would be great especially with detailed pictures e.g. what does ringworm or slapped cheek look likelsewhere and do you need to visit the doctors for it. It might also be useful to have a financial app with information or links in one place like tax credits, maternity pay and rights and the law, child benefit , isa and savings options for DC, what to look for in nursery contracts, information about free child places and so on.
