it took ages for the thread to start fio- and now I can't post anything at all grrrr

Davros · 04/08/2005 19:17

I bet they think it will be bought mostly by schools etc. Shows what they think of us "caring and involved" parents. Still can't register.

Fio2 · 04/08/2005 21:53

davros, go on register, they send you an instant email, log out, go to your email account reply to the message withe registration code on your reply, then go back to the bbc website and log in

my reply is up now, seems like a very popular thread for that board

Jimjams · 04/08/2005 21:56

I can't p[ost anything else now though fio as it says my registration isn't complete- when it is I started the thread!

Davros are you using a Mac? I've had this problem with BBC before - I think they're not very mac friendly.

SamN · 04/08/2005 22:38

I'm very interested to see that Something Special is now on DVD - especially as I sent a message asking about it from the CBeebies website very recently and their answer said nothing about a DVD or even when it would next be screened. We have our set-top box recording all the episodes (have 14 now) and looking at the way they've done the DVDs I think we'll stick with our home recorded versions too.

coppertop · 04/08/2005 22:45

I remember seeing an interview with Justin Fletcher when Something Special was first shown. He was very enthusiastic about the idea of a programme that SN children and NT children could all get a lot from. I wonder how he feels about so many families being unable to afford the DVD?

Davros · 05/08/2005 09:19

Had a crap reply from someone on their help desk giving me a useless link to help on the website. Still can't register..... have replied to them. Ho hum.

I don't think they've ever had a thread with more than one or two posts on it until now!

Davros · 05/08/2005 19:41

Not using a MAC btw Jimjams (ugh to Macs although DH does have a fancy new one as well as 100 pcs!).

coppertop · 06/08/2005 13:12

Is Will's Mum a MNer? LOL at that great post!

GeorginaA · 06/08/2005 13:24

Writing on the message board probably isn't going to get much response. However, you can make an official complaint to the BBC and they have to respond.

Go on, clog up their mailbox

Jimjams · 06/08/2005 13:33

It's difficult to find- anyway eventually sent my official complaint- here:

"Why are the Something Special dvd's so expensive when compared to other children's programmes? Many people have complained on the CBeebies noticeboard:

www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?state=threads&board=grownups.cbeebies&

These dvd's are essential for families with children with special needs (my eldest son is severely autistic and they enable his siblings to learn Makaton easily). It seems very unfair that we have to pay so much.

Our family can afford it - but many families with children with special needs cannot. Families with disabled children are more likely to be poor, and the mothers are far less likely to be working (because of the problems of childcare). In other words the families that really need access to these products are those least likely to be able to afford them."

coppertop · 06/08/2005 13:40

This is probably a really stupid question but in the list of options under the complaints section do I click on "BBC programmes" (as SS is obviously a programme!) or "General BBC" (as it's a complaint about pricing rather than the actual content)?

GeorginaA · 06/08/2005 13:43

Dunno - I did General BBC because it's more a pricing complaint than a complaint about the show? I imagine they'd forward it on to the right department if you got it wrong anyway.

coppertop · 06/08/2005 13:52

Thanks.

I've just sent my complaint too.

anniebear · 06/08/2005 15:38

Just done my complaint.

Jimjams....sorry, copied a lot of your complaint!!!!! but changed it a bit !!!

Fio2 · 06/08/2005 17:01

anniebear · 07/08/2005 16:10

was just going to post that1

Will get my letter off tomorrow!!

anniebear · 07/08/2005 16:13

Just realised I can e mails, have just done so

coppertop · 07/08/2005 21:29

I got the same e-mail too. I don't know why they couldn't have just forwarded the complaints themselves - unless of course they were hoping that we would give up and not bother following it up? Hmmm...
