I thought it was good to see a journo giving Katie a break over Harvey's SN, I really feel for her with respect to what she has to deal with from the media over Harvey.

does anyone else feel a bit uneasy about how many times Harvey appears on the front page of a magazine though?

I saw one which said "Jordan's expecting! But Harvey's condition could be fatal!"

I agree she needs a break, but I can't stand the way his condition is sensationalised, it's disrespectful

I agree with you mogwai, Jordan does court the media.
However, it's really difficult to know where what she has said actually starts and ends as I expect that journalists often will manipulate what she has said in an interview to sell the latest copy of 'Tat' or 'Pap' magazine.

I liked the article not so much for the first paragraph about Jordan (although I do feel for her in terms of what the media has implied r.e. her pregnancy lifestyle) but for the remainder of the article, as what Dea Birkett wrote rang very true in parts for me.

Jordan has to make a living like all the rest of us. And on top of that she's a single mum with a special needs child. She's not doing any more than any other 'celeb' would do. I remember reading reports about her in LA for a PlayBoy shoot. She was very candid in stating that she took on a lot of jobs these days so she could provide the very best care she could for her son; that she was just like any single mum out there.

Quite right.

There's a good article about her and Harvey in a recent 'OK' or 'Hello' in which she discusses the extent of Harvey's disabilities. He is believed to be autistic as well although the doctors are still trying to determine if this is really so.

In a way I can see both POV, it is good that she is informing the nation about Harveys SN as it makes it more socially recognisable in a lot of ways, less scary perhaps. And she is one shrewd business woman - she knows her career shelf life is limited, why should she not milk it a little.
But I would keep my life and my kids lives private at all costs if it were me. Do benefits and fund raising by all means though...

I really admire Katie, and she is one of my fav. celebs. because she is so forthcoming about her son's problems. she doesn't hide it and talks about it freely, I didn't realise that Harvey has some many problems till I read about it recently, and it make me think...

I also admire Katie and i believe she is a great mum and she adores her little boy.

I read the exclusive interview in the ok magazine last week it was. She explains all of Harveys condition and one of the reasons she wanted to do the interview was to let people know exactly what was wrong with her son as she says there is so much speculation about it and people just think he is blind but there is a lot lot more to his problems. She also says she wanted to put the people that write her horrible hate mail about harvey and herself straight and ake them think about what they are doing when they pick up that pen and paper and wiet things like he is "fat", "ugly", and it is all her fault for going out and getting drunk when pregnant. I mean what sort of people are these who write such horrible and sick stuff??

yes I think she gets a really bad press, i know she is a bit thick but she loves her children and she seems like alovely girl really. I think the media have been very ignorant about the extenct of harveys problems and I think she is right to put the record straight but why the hell should she??? It reminds me of all the ignorant comments I used to get when my daughter was smaller

I actually don't think Katie has talked much about Harvey's special needs or tried to milk it for the media. The recent interview in OK! was an exeption and I understand why she did that. Before that I think she was quite quiet about it and it was the media always banging on about it not her. Sure, she appeared in mags with Harvey but just as her son, not in a kind of 'look at my poor baby' way.

Also - think how hard it must be for her in terms of getting support. Just because she is Jordan doesn't mean it isn't going to hurt the same as it does for all of us. And she can't exactly go to local support groups can she? Maybe we should invite her to join us on MN .

Yeah, I agree. I've actually got a lot of time for her. And I think it can only raise awareness of children with difficulties and parenting children with special needs.
ps I've invited her, via her mum, to Sweet Peas, my new SN toddler group- it starts next Thursday! Do you think she'll come?

tbh i have thought for a long time that he most probably has a rare syndrome and she hasnt said the name of it because she knows the media will look to see if she IS in any support groups. Because in one interview she did on the telly she said she was in touch with a few mums who had the same 'diagnosis' as harvey and from the recent stuff she has said she says he has a mixture of diagnosis's. Most probably does use the internet for support and doesnt want to be found out iykwim

Good for you JakB! Wouldn't it be great if she came? Not for the 'oh a celebrity' value but because she felt she could.

I admire Katie, she comes across as normal, and i loved the pics of her shopping in mothercare, no up market shops for her, just good old mothercare .

her little boy has many problems, and isaw the other week that they know have a major pushchair for him, which is great as he was really getting too big for the old one. he looks like such a happy little chap, and he is so chubby and gorgeous, i just want to gobble him up

My friend (who I am doing the toddler group) and I went up to her in Debenhams crockery department (oh, the glamour) and asked her if she would support us and she was very nice and very approachable. Peter was a sweetie (sad, I know, but I've got lots of time for him too) and gorgeous Harvey was fast asleep in his pushchair (which was too small so good they've got a Major)...
ps They were both very orange

I too have thought it must be really isolating for her sometimes, as if you're a celebrity it must be twice as hard to rock up at an SN support group etc.
By speaking out, she hopefully makes people realise that disability can happen to anyone, celebrity or not. Whilst there are probably many public figures affected by disability, there are very few that speak out about it. FWIW, my dd shares a couple of physiological symptoms with Harvey, so it's nice to hear her talk about it.
I'm not a fan though of the constant OK coverage of her and Peter, nothing against them, but every time I pick up a mag they're on the flipping cover

I was thinking about the fact she couldn't go to SN support groups I love going to the local one here, even if DS and DD1 are a bit older than most of the kids there. Its fab...
I read in the Sun that Harvey has about 5 different dignosis

V nice to read positive posts about Kate on here. She's a good friend of mine and is wonderful with Harvey, and Peter is just a poppet (with fab skin!)

totally agree about them being Tangoed, and she has a big mouth sometimes! Would have loved to come to the group but ds at nursery on a Thurs and i work 9 -3. Very best of luk with it tho'
