I live in nottinghamshire (a village not far from mansfield) and just wondered if anyone around this way or not that far away fancied arranging a meet up somewhere?

misscutandstick · 28/04/2009 11:32

do you know i was looking for it too, and couldnt find it!

err dunno, whats everyone want?

jennybensmummy · 28/04/2009 11:38

not a soft play would be my idea though if possible as ben is really not good at those places! Sherwood forest kind of place? farm? park somewhere? im easy really

OP posts:
meggymoosmum · 28/04/2009 17:34

Sherwood/Rufford/Clumber-type places are good for us - fresh air, plenty of space and not too many people around if dd has a meltdown

She is OK with soft play as long as she's the only one there

jennybensmummy · 29/04/2009 09:38

that sounds like ben too would love the place to himself!!

Ooooh anonandlikeit, which one did you go to? We like the Mandarin

meltedmarsbars - you are very welcome to come along

I've been to Wheelgates today with dd (its her 3rd bday!), place was empty, it was great!

misscutandstick · 29/04/2009 18:10

ooh oooh oohhhh! meggymoo, we are thinking of going to wheelgate too, for DS4's 4th birthday... whats it like?

unfortunately his B/D is on bank hol monday so EVERYWHERE will be swarming!

meggymoosmum · 29/04/2009 18:48

Hmmmm.... well in all honesty i would have been disappointed if we'd had to pay full price - it cost us about £16 for two adults and dd, special needs is discounted and 1 carer gets in free. Full price would have cost around £25.. Does that make me sound mercenary?

They are currently doing loads of improvements (just been taken over?) - building a new huge indoor soft play area (July 09 opening), etc, and (hopefully) renovating/painting other areas etc - its OK but in places looks a bit 'shabby' iykwim. They are definitely making an effort to bring it up to scratch, i assume in time for summer.

The leaflet doesn't make it very clear so off the top of my head things there are - Rides (carousel, mine train, mini pirate ship, etc), Train that runs round the park, Falconry centre, Farm bit which looks 'temporary' but very clean, LOADS of outdoor play areas for different ages, butterfly house (dd hated this lol), big conifer maze, couple of cafes, one with an attached indoor soft play, and a few other bits.

We were there about 4 hours but dd potters and gets obsessed by one thing so today we just went with it and relaxed Food was reasonably priced too.

HTH!

lizandlulu · 29/04/2009 19:03

hiya, can i just butt in? sorry to come in on you thread, but i just came across it, i am in newark to, i didnt think there was any other ladies on mumsnet here. i am so glad i dont have special needs links, but was just so happy to have found someone in my town!

meggymoosmum · 29/04/2009 19:51

Hi lizandlulu!

anonandlikeit · 29/04/2009 19:59

Meggymoo, not sure what it was called but right near the castle - it was delicious mmmmmm!!

misscutandstick · 29/04/2009 20:19

meggymoo - gonna join you in the mercenary stakes DS1 and DS5 both get DLA, does that mean that both DH and I would get in free? (OMG that sounds so mean, after all its his birthday!)

CAnt eat the onsite food tho im afraid - with 2 coeliac and also dairy intol, its just not worth the hassle.

We went a couple of years ago when it was still 'wonderland' and it really was quite dismal and rundown. But willing to give it a go if we get in cheap OMG did i really type that?

jennybensmummy · 29/04/2009 21:34

weve never been to wheelgate though i do want to go. white post farm does a carers dla discount too. costs me 6.95 i think for me and ben to go in! then just a bit for animal food!!
