Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Right, that's it. I can't cope with anymore

dd1 will only drink one thing - pear & pineapple juice, preferably form a small lunchbox carton, with a straw.

Just before Christmas, it was withdrawn. I panicked wildly calmly looked around, found a few places promising delivery, and got on with getting dd1 to drink from a beaker again (last time we messed around with her drinking, she stopped. For 9 months )

Her juice was available in 1 litre cartons, and we worked hard at getting her to drink it form a beaker. She came through ok, and drinks well now.

I have just been to re-stock the cupboard, and her juice has been withdrawn.

Cannot find it anywhere for love nor money.

I do not want to be doing this anymore.

I cannot even begin to contemplate how I go about getting dd1 to drink anything other than her beloved juice.

I have, if we're lucky, a week's supply, and then that's it, no more fluids for dd1.

I just want to curl up and weep. This is not fair (and I am aware hwo childish that sounds, but it just isn't fair).

Oh no, how awful xxxxxx (Sorry, I don't have any advice, just wanted to let you know someone was here)

bullet123 · 05/03/2009 11:11

What's the name of it? Someone might have it still in their area.

TotalChaos · 05/03/2009 11:12

god how worrying. what brand is it, am happy to look for it up here in Liverpool if that's any help.

PheasantPlucker · 05/03/2009 11:13

I am in S London

silverfrog · 05/03/2009 11:17

thanks everyone

I have never seen it in shops, only online, but just in case, it is:

La Verja Pear & Pineapple juice.

It comes in a green carton, unsurprisingly with a picture of a pear and a pineapple on the front. Will try to find a link for visual support , hang on

  • here, bottom right

The company seem to be spectacularly unhelpful - I emailed them before Christmas when I had my last breakdown the small cartons vanished and have had no reply...

If found anywhere, it is likely to be in weirdy health food shop - not exactly run of the mill stuff

Oh Silverfrog no that is not fair, that is just One Of Those Things One Can Do Without

I know how desperate you will be so had a look on Dutch expat website because most dutch seem to love mixed juices like that, but the closest I came was orange and pineapple.

I guess something as obvious as mixing it yourself does not work?

lou031205 · 05/03/2009 11:19

TA DA!

£0.50 per carton, with straw included free of charge, lol!

thanks, lou, but they are out of stock (I am assuming, since I ordered form them beofre Christmas, have chased order several times, and all they say is they will look into it and never get back to me...)

wish they'd update their website, though.

lou031205 · 05/03/2009 11:23

Or £0.49 per carton here

silverfrog · 05/03/2009 11:24

madmouse- mixing is my next move, but not sure how she will take it if she sees me doing it iyswim?

have ordered some pineapple juice, and am on the case for pear juice, so that i can try...

OP posts:
silverfrog · 05/03/2009 11:25

lou - great minds, am on the phone to them now, but I suspect it's an import issue

OP posts:
madmouse · 05/03/2009 11:25

I see the problem, even online stores that have it in their menus then direct you to another juice.

lou031205 · 05/03/2009 11:25

Bad news, I'm afraid. Apparently there are rumours that La Verga have gone bust. All lines discontinued

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 11:27

silverfrog - feel so sorry for you. I live in Gran Canaria and this brand of juice is in all the shops but I don't think I'd be allowed to send you any through the post. Will investigate.

silverfrog · 05/03/2009 11:28

I suspected as much - have been having issues with suppliers since December.

so, we have to tackle it head on.

wish me luck

Soph73 · 05/03/2009 11:28

lou - oh, didn't realise they might have gone bust. Am going to the supermarket tonight so will look and see if we've still got it.

silverfrog · 05/03/2009 11:37

thanks, Soph73.

I think it might be too tricky to post, but I will try to hunt around and see what is allowed from this end.

If it is available, a coule of cartons would give us a bit of breathing space to plan what we can do about this.

Silverfrog, I've searched all the "big name" food websites, and the closest thing I could find was in Waitrose, Peter Rabbit pear juice in individual cartons. Obviously not the same, but possibly something worth trying??

Failing that, the only pear juice I found on the food sites was Heinz baby pear juice.

Hope you manage to find your DD some of the juice she does like!

silverfrog · 05/03/2009 11:44

Thnaks, 5inthebed, we have tried the Peter Rabbit juice, and she won't touch it (actually, i don't blame her - I drank it once when she wouldn't touch it, and it is pretty vile )

I feel awful saying "thanks, we've tried that" to everyone. I do really appreciate you all looking.

dd1 has had issues with drinking since she was 1, so we really have been there, done that for most things.

funnily enough, i had bee worrying about how we were going to take enough juice on holiday with us this summer (going to Oz, and they're really strict on bringing stuff in) - looks like I won't have to bother now - every cloud has a silver lining, and all that, eh?

Lancelottie · 05/03/2009 12:10

Umm. This may be another obvious thing youve tried, but here goes:
when ds1 (autistic) was titchy, he would only drink banana-flavour follow-on milk. We shifted him off it gradually by mixing in tiny amounts of ordinary milk, starting with about a teaspoon in a whole bottle and working up. It took about two or three weeks of sneaky mixing, IIRC. Might the same approach work here, diluting her proper juice with a teeny bit more pear (or pineapple) from somewhere else? (I realise you only have a little bit left, but this would spread it out.)

madmouse · 05/03/2009 12:14

silverfrog dh just suggested keeping the packaging of what you still have cleaning it and then refilling with your own mix??

Arabica · 05/03/2009 12:16

They definitely used to sell this juice in my local health shop, Fresh & Wild (now Wholefoods Market). If there are any left in stock, would you like? I can pop in later and have a look, I'm going in anyway.
