Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Ok I just need to say this so you can all nod your wise head while wearing the 'been there' t-shirt

DLA form is horrid, and my ds is simple, cp nothing else

Now I know why I have pretended for a whole year that he was not bad enough to qualify/too small/ not enough extra work.

Made me bloody depressed, spending two hours writing down what he can't do.

Ok, as you were, thanks for the indulgence.

Any suggestions? Can't have wine as I do not drink and have given up chocolates and biscuits for lent. Low fat crisps don't work

lol at cp and nothing else

madmouse · 04/03/2009 22:35

yes well there is cp and cp and cp plus a list of stuff

He is 13 months and will sit when you plonk him on his bottom,as long as he stays calm and he can stand holding one hand

and if you saw the list of expected problems he came home from hozzie with..

Nothing as good for a bit of gratitude as a nosey on this thread

well if you think WWJD when filling out a DLA form, I'm sure that he'ld have thought the choc and biccies were allowed in the circumstances .

Make sure you keep a copy of the form before you submit, so that if you need to do it again you don't have to start from scratch.

I second WWJD - he ate with tax collectors and socialised with prostitutes, I think he can cope with chocolate.

It is grim, grim, grim, then you have to wait (14 weeks, I was told on 6th Feb!) for a decision, knowing that about 40% are just rejected for no apparent reason

5inthebed · 05/03/2009 08:53

How about cake? Cake is always good!

bubblagirl · 05/03/2009 08:54

i just found lots of hugs with my ds done the trick and seeing him laugh made me feel so much better

and really being proud of the small things he could do

madmouse · 05/03/2009 08:58

pmsl at the WWJD. I know he would. But being as fat as I am is not going to help the list of risk factors for the next pg, so Lent is only the excuse really to finally tackle some baby weight.

Looking into ds's huge blue eyes definitely helps though .

I can offer you one of my weight watchers date and walnut cakes? They are yummy, but only one bite

You'll just have to make yourself a cake ;)

I promised myself a new laptop as my incentive to get DS2's DLA form filled out, last month. It worked well - I had it in 2 weeks before the deadline!

And this one has improved my typing, since it doesn't chew up and spit out every 4th keystroke without anything to show for it, so I'm not constantly going back to fill in missing letters!

hereidrawtheline · 05/03/2009 12:53

mmmm pavlova!!

I meant to give up something for lent, I am not a Christian, does that make me a fraud? I just thought it might be fun to experience a little self deprivation as I am fairly hedonistic when it comes to chocolate, cake etc But I forgot. When did lent start?

On a more serious note though, the DLA form is a nightmare!! We are halfway through it. Its horrible you have to just repeat yourself constantly.

There must be a market out there for "I Survived The DLA Forms" T-shirts. A nice big gold star (copyright Fio) and the lettering done in a fake dripping blood style.

Well done, Madmouse.

PheasantPlucker · 05/03/2009 14:18

I have just had a letter saying dd1 will be getting an extra 60 quid DLA to cover 'Additional Christmas Payment'. What is this?! (Not that I am complaining!) Anyone know???

bigcar · 05/03/2009 14:46

Oh Fio, I thought I was specially singled out, and that you had written to the DLA people to recommend me for the bonus!! Oh, I feel quite let down now!! And not specially singled out at all!

madmouse · 05/03/2009 20:50

Pheasantplucker of course you have been singled out. God has given you a Special Child to look after because you are a Special Mummy
