who can diagnose ADHD??

I am certain that DD1 has ADHD and DS has a mild form of it, I am at the end of thether with DD1 and can't take much more of her behaviour, she is so lively and loud! She screams and shouts. She fights like a boy and hurts the other badly. Of course when she starts DS starts. Who can help me with this? Is it worth going to the GP?

I am only new to this all - just started out on the journey a few weeks ago to try and get DS assessed - we have taken him to GP to get a referral done but are also going through the school -so whichever gets the appointment quickest we will take - we were told it would take up to a year for the appointment by the doc but school think they may be able to speed up the process - is your DD at school? even though maybe speak to HV or GP as well

Hi sparklymieow, My undestanding is a pad doctor or child pshy - usually and children and family consulation serivrecs ( CFCS). They usually do a connor score down by you and school.

Just a word of warning I do have a friend who's child is loud and behaviur problems and told she was just a lively child. I think with real ADHD it is a real problem at school and this tends to be a real sign, if the school keep calling you in for behaviour problems etc. larsxx

Sorry that should read 'connor score done by you and school. I have ds at home at the moment as problem with school supporting him, so often distracted by'mum'.

I have been called in about 5 or 6 times in the 7 weeks she has been there, I have just been on a school trip with the class, and noticed that she calls out whenever she wants, and doesn't listen. And her attention and listening skills are cr*p, this has been an ongoing problem for 2 years now. She is only 4.9 years and has been on School action plus since she started nursery when she was 3.2 years, mainly for her CP and language problems, but a lot of the targets have been about her attention ands language.

I would go to your GP and asked to be referred and say why and also ask the school do they have other children with adhd in their school and is there a similar behaviour pattern. You can apply direct to the LEA for an assessment, speak to the school's SENCO. Is your dd's beahviour at school affecting her learning?? Hope this helps. larsxx

Only a psychiatrist, as far as I'm aware. Maybe different in other area's. Your GP can refer to the CAMHS team for assessment. (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service)

yes, BH, I might be a real pain to you, sorry!! My sister, who works with ADHD children and AS children, also thinks DD1 has ADHD!! I am at the end of my thether with her behaviour and noone will diagnose her and all they want to do is put us on parenting courses, yet DS only starts because Dd1 does, and dd2 is a lovely quiet little girl, so its not my parenting, is it??

Of course it's not your parenting skills mieow, you are obvioulsy a great mum.
Your dd has cp, I am sure that's right. Well quite often other things go hand in hand with that, I am sure. Has anyone said that to you before?

She has CP, and a lot of her behaviour has been put down to the damage and the fact she is immature for her age. Only one doctor agreed with us that she possibly has ADHD or ASD, and he refused to commite to that, and he was a CAMHs doctor

school won't call in the EP (god knows why?) and I don't know which way to go. The other kids said today that "XXX is vey loud, isn't she?" to me

don't worry CT, I don't expect everyone to know about everything.... same way I don't know much about other disorders. Sometimes it feels I am being ignored on here tho. Earlier when I posted this question noone answered but there was another ADHD question and that was getting replies

also she wakes at night and thinks it time to get up, takes ages to get her back to sleep. Someone from Scope told me that a lot of children with CP have a problem with their bodyclock but I can't help wondering if its related to something else.

I do find the special needs section hard to get into IYKWIM. People ignore my questions and worries and then my threads end up with about 3 or 4 answers normally. I only use the SN if I really need a quick answer and then that doesn't always happen!! And to think, I was the one that asked Tech if we could have a SN board!
Oh ignore me, feeling sorry for myself!

no, whats that? I have wondered about senory issues before. She can't stand loud noises, but has the TV up so loud you can't think {confused?? I am} and she loves to touch skin. She hates water in her hair (but don't all kids??)

but recently I have noticed she hates being cuddled at night, she used to touch my hand but now she shouts no hand, no cuddles. She also hates the covers being on her.

Hmmm. Not all kids. Some children have specific problems in processing, organising or responding to sensations. Has anyone mentioned this before or are you waiting to see any HP's?

Mieow - sorry you feel like that . I hardly ever see you on here to be honest.
Look all os us on the sn board have one thing in common and we all want to help you, I promise.
I think you need to speak to your gp about having a multi disciplinary assessment done as it does sound as though dd has a lot going on and I don't think you'll get a lot from Camhs to be honest.
