Am typing this waiting for the local hosp neuro ward (where we have open access) to get back to me. DD1 has not drunk anything since Mon evening - except 10 mls of Calpol I almost forced her to drink last night. I am starting to panic now. Dh has gone to work, and I have dd2 here too. Am worried that it is shunt malfunction - but could just be a virus??? No temp tho. I wish neuro ward would call back, I am reluctant to call again as I know they are busy caring for sick children. And we are supposed to talk to them first before just rocking up there.

DD1 keeps SCREAMING as she momentarily wakes up, then back to sleep again.

GP Totally crap. Will just either 1) say no appts 2) send to hosp anyway.

Sorry, I am rambling. Any thoughts anyone????

Ring again and tell them you are coming in in 15 minutes as you are very worried. If they don't want you to come straight down they can ring you back in that 1/4 hour.

I don't trust wards etc to phone back. They're so busy that unless something is in their face it is forgotten. If you're worried she needs to be seen.

TotalChaos · 20/08/2008 10:43

agree with jimjams. hope she feels better soon.

Seuss · 20/08/2008 10:45

Agree - say you are coming anyway - if they don't want you to that's up to them to tell you what to do instead.

LaDiDaDi · 20/08/2008 10:47

Ring them back again. Your dd needs to be seen.

Think I would go now anyway tbh. That's a long time without fluids.

TotalChaos · 20/08/2008 10:48

DS was like this with not drinking when he had a chest infection earlier in the year btw.

PheasantPlucker · 20/08/2008 10:49

On phone to them now.....

Hope she's on the mend soon PP

Sidge · 20/08/2008 10:55

Could be a shunt blockage or maybe an infection brewing somewhere - my DD went off her food and drink when she was brewing a chest infection.

Hope it gets sorted ASAP and you get her in soon.

PheasantPlucker · 20/08/2008 10:56

Sidge - yes the shunt blockage is always a worry when she is like this. x

Thanks for messages and advice. Took dd to hospital. They took bloods etc. In the evening they did a CT scan of her brain, then did an emergency (4 hideous hours!) shunt revision, as her VP shunt had bloocked. Have totally replaced it, in brain and stomach cavity. She is doing well today, ate and drank a little at lunchtime, and has a shaved head on the left side. (not the whole side, just half, by the ear). Tonight dh is staying with her, I left at 7.30 and am going to bed early. Then back tomorrow. A friend has taken dd2 for a couple of days and a sleepover.

I feel totally exhausted, and a little bit 'nervous' sick.

Thanks to all x

Sorry your dd had to go through all that, but at least she's on the mend. Take care - all of you!

Sidge · 22/08/2008 04:56

Oh PP I'm sorry you've all had such an awful experience but hopefully her new shunt will make her feel so much better.

Wishing her a speedy recovery and that you and DH get some sleep. Best wishes
