I'm stunned! He just did it, then took them off and did it again. Now jumping around the place with them on looking very pleased with himself. We haven't been working on it- he just did it. I'm flabbergasted.

Brilliant! That's the thing about ASD kids they only want to do it on their terms. Great to hear he is communicating better too.

Fantastic news, jimjams. I love the sound of the PECS cards being used so much, and asking for his toy microwave is just so sweet. It sounds as though he's having a sudden burst of development, long may it continue

He always does this. Spends years refusing to even try something then just does it first time of trying. We used to say he was like that as a baby! We were always rather hoping that langauge would go the same way.

he is sneaky isn't he Davros! I hope he has a few more sneaky surprises up his sleeve.

We managed a pretty long walk on Dartmoor today - we got soaking, but he actually left the car without screaming.

jimjams, fantastic sock and pizza news And this is from the boy who wouldn't copy?

It looks like he's made a bit of a leap. If he's made one there's lots of hope he'll make many more.

I've just posted on your other thread about ds2 so really pleased to hear good news from you on this one.

Metrobaby · 17/07/2004 19:37

Before finding MN I knew very little about special needs of any kind but since then I've learnt so much and reading this has really put a smile on my face at your DS1 achievement. Its fantastic Jimjams, well done little mr jams.

Fantastic news Jimjams!! I am so pleased for you all

I think its one step forwards 2 steps back though as he has suddenly started wetting himself. been completely dry for months now......

He does this very clever thing when he wants something that we don't have a PECS symbol for- brings me the sentence strip them drags me off to whatever it is he wants. Am keeping a list of requests and will sit down and make symbols for them later in the week.

Twice now he has asked for his hoover to go on a shelf- what do you reckon hoover up in PECS or hoover on shelf? As we're using PECS to teach language as well I'm inclined to go wth the second one although I've never seen it used like that......

Thomcat · 19/07/2004 10:27

LOL! It really made me laugh that you haven't been working on it and he worked it out for himself. Happens to me all the time. i'll be really working on L doing one thign and I turn round and she's totally sussed how to do something completley unrelated to what I'm trying to teach her, all on her own! Kids, aren't they just great! Really pleased he's done this, at the moment L just shoves the whole sock onto her big toe and pushes down!

RexandBen · 19/07/2004 23:23
