Goodness me.

Just thought it might be helpful and insightful for some on here to read, particularly if you are hoping that your fight for a properly specified statement will make the difference for your child.

I can't get involved because I don't know enough about statementing but blimey some scary views from teachers.... totally not surprising in my experience but sacry

This is why parents should apply for a statement themselves and not leave it to school .

I rewrote my ds's crap statement after seeing advice on this board and sent it back to them. It's not perfect but it's so much better than the LEA's draft (which declined to mention his specific learning difficulties and named the wrong school.)

I had to get involved in the end because of an awful comment about parents like starlight!!

My God these people are unreal and should be ashamed

The system is rotten to the core but there is a point to be made about the uselessness of some TA provision - just not the one they are trying to make.

I know IE.

But it's hard to have the debate about what TA support should look like when the argument is still at such a basic level of egos.

I'm not brave enough to get involved on the other thread - I'm still nursing my Tribunal battle scars. But yes it is the audacity of the egos that astound me! My poor child had 11 assessments in as many months - including one done by one of this country's leading experts on dyslexia. Yet if he had ended up in ms and his class teacher was one of those on the other thread, s/he would probably ignore every single provision I (and my experts) fought for and 'won'. All assessments (inc those done by LA professionals - not the illegal pen-pushers) said he needs the support I 'won'. But then a ms teacher, with his/her massive ego would brush it all side. Would that teacher be the one that would pick up the pieces when it all goes disastrously wrong? Of course not!

Teachers like them were one of the reasons I fought so hard for my child to get into a specialist school. I didn't want them anywhere near my child.

Star (and the others) - you are doing a sterling job getting teachers to admit what things are like on a day to basis regardless, of Every Child Matters, IEP, or even a statement.

M/s with a 1:1 is the right option when it is the LA choice and wrong when it is the parent choice.

We all know this is what goes on - every one of us has probably had a run in with a teacher who thinks they know best, that it doesn't look like autism to me, or who says there are children in need of more help. It's endemic.

Teachers always seem to think that they are the smartest people in the room which is really, profoundly sad given the level of ability of many I have met.

But the system stinks from top to bottom. This is why we should try and argue for change and have our voice heard somewhere other than mumsnet.

I can't read it. Things like make me want to vomit. I wonder how these people would feel if they have sn child? It's all so fu@king easy for everyone else. If they had the child they could fix it all. Bollocks

If they had a child with additional needs themselves, they wouldn't have the smug and complacent arrogance that makes them think they have all the answers and are free to customise hard-won provisions.
If they had a lot more experience of listening rather than proclaiming, they'd be better teachers.
Some of us are both parents and teachers.

I didn't know a certain fab teacher that did post on there a few times had a child with ASD herself. It explains A LOT!

I'm always showing DS how much more accepting the world is of him out of school. The damage done by a useless SEN industry which forces kids to struggle against attitudes like this for years is beyond contempt.
