I'm in a cafe forecourt far from home, just got into trouble by the security guard for stealing the electricity for my phone.

DS has another assessment for a school which just cannot make up it's mind. We had to set off last night which meant a b&b. DS' routine is disrupted, he has a cold. He is tired. I'm tired. 16 schools in 3 weeks to fulfil tribunal deadlines. Most have rejected us. Some for needs based reasons, most ms types for funding reasons (he carries a high resource statement with the potential of an ABA tribunal win).

The ASD schools don't have appropriate peers, ABA has been too damn good too quickly. The SALT schools are wary of his ASD.

He's being assessed by a SALT SS I'd like to accept him. If they don't I'll cry in despair. If they do I'll cry in despair at having to relocate to a LA closer to it within 2 weeks taking into account the likely school that dd will end up in, not to mention the commute for DH.

The assessment today means my attendance rate at a course I have been on for two years will not be enough to pass. It is no good begging for special circumstances as they have already been lenient and a baby in June means I can promise nothing.

I am so very very tired and miserable........

Yaaaaay!

starfish71 · 06/02/2012 16:20

Wonderful! Brilliant news! :)

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/02/2012 17:03

Do you like the school, Star? Here's hoping it's the start of good news for you. Xx

StarlightMcKenzie · 06/02/2012 17:50

I like the school. DS doesn't Hmm. he says it's boring.

I think he means 'demanding' or 'tiring' They know what they are doing and understand the nature of avoidance strategies. There's no caring carrots there!

Will they acceppt ABA?

Great news!

StarlightMcKenzie · 06/02/2012 18:19

Not in the form of a 'programme' but the principles are in the school. There is enough expertise not to need it iyswim.

Fantastic news on the school front star,

Please be kind to yourself, share some of the avoidance strategy stuff when you find out how they do itGrin.

StarlightDicKenzie · 06/02/2012 19:14

What if we move to expensive place, fight a tribunal and then lose it - what then? bleugh - I'll work it out tomorrow. Gonna drink wine and stick kids in front of Peppa Pig instead of bedtime stories then I'm gonna watch the social worker programme on and shout a lot at the TV about something/anything!

DS didn't have to go to all the schools and DH and I sometimes did the less likely ones alone (i.e. shared them out), but when they looked viable then we had to take ds and arrange childcare etc. It's been exhausting.......

The tribunal gave us 6 weeks, but 3 of those were the christmas holidays Hmm

signandsmile · 06/02/2012 19:24

great news about the school Grin

pinkorkid · 06/02/2012 19:32

That's so good about the school - well done for persevering and I'm sure you will get over any other hurdles on the way and let's hope they will be minor hiccups instead. Enjoy your wine and some cathartic shouting.

tryingtokeepintune · 06/02/2012 19:43

Just seen this. Am so pleased for you - congratulations!

Don't worry about the logistics and all the other what ifs for now. Just like the flamenco woman, you fight off the idiots and demons one at a time.

Hope you enjoy your wine tonight and have a good rest.

magso · 06/02/2012 19:52

Well done Star! So pleased you have had good news!

MotherFromHell · 06/02/2012 19:54

Is this a maintained or an independant school Star.

Does it mean you have to move house?

Sorry to ask - think I may have missed some info here.

MotherFromHell · 06/02/2012 19:59

^ ignore - questions were answered earlier - sorry ^^

StarlightDicKenzie · 06/02/2012 20:00

Mother I think I know who you are but I also know that my LA know I'm here and you're questions are rather direct (like the person who I think you are cane be - so I'm confused).

Don't mean to offend but can you reassure me?

MotherFromHell · 06/02/2012 20:23

I'm Wet - sorry I thought you knew. I'll change back now.

dietstartstmoz · 06/02/2012 20:23

well done star, sounds like you have really been through it these past few weeks. How can anyone visit 16 schools in 3 weeks?? And be assessed? Ridiculous

WetAugust · 06/02/2012 20:26

Ok - normal service resumed Grin

mariamagdalena · 06/02/2012 20:54

Well done star. And mini-star. And DH. And sensible school. And even the security man for letting it lie in the end.

I wouldn't worry too much about the mainstream school till dd is there. If this SN lark has taught ms anything, it's to judge a school by how it turns out in practice, not by what people say, nor the results, nor any of the commonly accepted features of a 'good school'.

With the course stuff, don't give up hope on a mini miracle. The beauty of being in such a very exceptional circumstance is the lack of precedence if by some chance, additional leniency was applied.

And your timing is magic. A bit of time for DS to settle, quick move, and then (please God) a sweet, easy, great-eater-and-feeder little summer baby dc3 to look cute and help you all to make new local friends and acquaintances. A mini or maxi breakdown probably is on the cards at some point, but likely to be minimised if you see it coming (dc3 warded it off for me at my darkest hour, so am having mine at the mo, but the warning means it's manageable)

coff33pot · 06/02/2012 21:44

THATS GREAT!!! Smile

Dont start on the what ifs quite yet. Relax and celebrate. I am really over the moon for you x
