It's a long shot but, anyone else on here live near me? I'm Nantwich, Cheshire.

My son is 10. Has autism (high functioning).

My son needs a friend... He has none.

That's it.

wendihouse22 · 15/03/2011 15:31

Sorry. It's a swine isn't it, advertising for a friend?

My ds is seven, so i suspect too young for your ds, sorry, we live in merseyside

sickofsocalledexperts · 15/03/2011 17:07

We are in London but my 10 year old daughter could be an email pen pal if it would help? She seems to find loads of virtual pals on a site called Pokefarm too.

Tiggles · 15/03/2011 17:14

Umm we are nearish, just into Wales. Ds is nearly 9 and will happily talk starwars at people. In fact he has finally made a good friend in school who is also starwars obsessed.

HelensMelons · 15/03/2011 17:23

Sorry, I have a 10 year old but we are in Scotland, plus your Ds would have to have a working knowledge of Warhammer to really click with my boy.

MADABOUTTHEBOY2000 · 16/03/2011 17:22

they should do a site for it shouldnt they my ds is 10.9 needs one too Sad when he goes to secondary if going to one with a unit? hopefully he will meet up with like minded other DC's

Louflipflop · 16/03/2011 19:11

hi, my son is also 10 and high functioning asd but we're in Cornwall. Have you ever considered using Skype (free video calling)? I know it's not the same as meeting face to face but in a way it's better as you don't have all the planning involved in physical visit and I find that my son's excitement and anxiety levels are a lot lower.

My son uses Skype to talk to his dad most days (we're divorced and he's few hundred miles away now) but he also talks to our friends over in the States and New Zealand. He loves it, gets to show them stuff he's particularly interested in and visa versa.

Like I said, it's not the same but it's something and it's free, just need to spend 5-10 mins downloading it.

HecateTheCrone · 16/03/2011 19:14

I was hopeful you were in derbyshire dales. I'd love a friend for my boys.

Reading this - it sounds like there's a real need here, doesn't it?

Do we do sn local meetups?

coppertop · 16/03/2011 19:25

I have a 10yr-old with ASD but I don't live near any of you. Unless anyone wants an e-mail pen-pal who could talk for hours about Pokemon?

It's difficult though as obviously I could really be a hairy trucker called Dave, with a fine selection of tattoos and no children.

coppertop · 16/03/2011 20:13

Ooops! I've driven you all away. Blush

EllenJane1 · 16/03/2011 20:21

Could we link this up to my 'Match the obsession' idea? Just so our kids can lecture someone who gives a damn.

Tattoos not compulsory!

wendihouse22 · 16/03/2011 20:33

coppertop..... made me chuckle!

There really IS a need for this isn't there? If I had a quid for every social group/fun day/activity group that's available that my son simply can't access, I'd be able to BUY him a sibling.

I'm aware how tricky this can be, safety wise on the internet but, maybe we could do something.

It does make me feel a bit better to know that my ds isn't the only one. This is so common this whole, lack of friends thing but it doesn't bode well for the future....isn't that how we learn to form adult relationships? We practice on our friends as we're growing up!
