It's a long shot but, anyone else on here live near me? I'm Nantwich, Cheshire.

My son is 10. Has autism (high functioning).

My son needs a friend... He has none.

That's it.

The LadyEvenstar.....my DS is scared witless by Harry Potter and we've never done Dr Who. Where are you geographically, though? Coppertop's love Dr Who!!!

Gotabookaboutit.....Shrewsbury's not far from us, really. I used to live in Hereford til Sept 09. Now Nantwich (to remarry and give up single-parenthood).

Nilbymaaf.... you a nurse? My son's potty about Mario. Loves King Boo. I have to be Yoshi all the time and it drives me bonkers and makes me dizzy/car sick playing on the Wii morning noon and night!

MY DS WATCHES YOUTUBE OF OTHERS PLAYING MARIO, BILLY HATCHER AND PACMAN WORLD 2. He loves the commentary and is glued to it. I THOUGHT HE WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!!

Hecatethecrone......my son is truly obsessed with Mario but HATES, HATES, HATES Princess Peach! She is his Nemesis (He plays as King Boo in the Flame Flyer) Christ! I know too much about this for a woman my age!

Is there any way we could link 'em up? I don't know, maybe get a Mario (games in general) "play forum" sorted for all our little ASD kids? Would be wonderful. Will take advice from my computer whizz kid step son (21) who might know how it could be done!

Ah, Hecatethecrone...thought I'd "read you" recently. On the Tourettes post.

My son's ASD/OCD with some Tourettes features. Think I replied to you.

LadyE - we're are also S. Ldn. DS has Aspergers and almost no friends. Hard to get him off the computer - no idea what he plays (bad mother me) but loves Lego. Watches a lot of what he calls YouTube poops - silly films of Tv and toy characters farting, doing stupid stuff. He's almost 14, but as you might have guessed, is emotionally a lot younger! He does a lot of Facebooking, and Farmville. Not sure how we could take this further...a Facebook group perhaps? Smile

My son is 7 (HFA) not near you unfortunately ,in Plymouth if anyone interested.

moosemama · 17/03/2011 17:49

My ds1 is 9 in a couple of weeks and Pokemon potty! He is desperate for either Black or White for his birthday and has persuaded his little brother to ask for a DS and the other one for his birthday the week afterwards. Hmm

He's only allowed a hour a day on his Nintendo and very often when he's not on the DS he can usually be found scouring the Pokedex and game guides.

I'm currently motivating him to do his spellings and handwriting exercises by allowing him to choose a different pokemon sticker at the end of every session. (Ebay have hundreds of them really cheap and he loves the ones we have at the moment, because they have all the pokemons in lots of different stages of evolution - apparently.)

He used to be obsessed with the Zelda series, but they don't bring new ones out often enough, so whilst it still has a special place in his heart, he pretty much switched allegiance to Pokemon.

He also loves Mario - although I have to admit to switching off slightly Blush so am not too sure which game/s or why he likes it.

I wonder what it is about Pokemon that grabs them all so much?

Oh and other than DS games, he is currently reading every BeastQuest book he can lay his hands on - especially the new series. They are too easy for him really - he can read a whole book in an hour, but they really seem to have captured his attention for some reason.

We are Warwickshire-ish, so not really all that close to any of you.

herdiegirl · 17/03/2011 18:02

logi - I have a DS nearly 7 also AS/ HFA and we're in Plymouth. My DS is a big fan of Wall-e and R2D2, well robots and space in general.Smile

TotalChaos · 17/03/2011 18:27

Oh mine loves peach, and mario games. He likes pokemon but is not into the detail of it, must admit i quite like pokemon and rpgs too....ds has also started getting into beast quest, not sure how much of the text he reads tho!

coppertop · 17/03/2011 19:06

I'd forgotten about Zelda. Yep, we had months of the Minish Cap (spelling?) and another one. It was dh who got them into that. Hmm

Ds2 has just discovered Beast Quest. WHSmiths had an offer on a few weeks ago and he chose one of the new ones and loved it. It's my fault he hasn't read any others. I keep forgetting which one he's read and don't want to buy the same one twice. He didn't inherit his memory skills from me. Blush

moosemama · 17/03/2011 21:24

We go to the library and order as many of the Beast Quest as they will let us in one go. (Ds always has a list of the next ones he wants to read.) He would seriously bankrupt us if we tried to buy books as fast as he gets through them. He goes to the library with dh every Saturday afternoon and borrows 8 books, which without fail he's read by Wednesday!

It doesn't help that he flatly refuses to read a book more than once. I've recently persuaded him to revisit a couple of his older favourites, but he only did that because he'd completely run out of anything else to read.

That's what I love about the Pokedex, its massive and he doesn't mind reading it over and over, because of the sheer amount of facts it contains. I do worry that he might do his eyes a damage reading all those teeny little words though. Confused

The only other thing he'll re-read is his collection of Nintendo Magazines. Which would be ok, if I could get through to him that just because they said a certain game was on offer for £X in a certain shop, in July 2009, doesn't mean we could go there and get it for that price now! Hmm

logi · 17/03/2011 23:36

Hi herdiegirl i have sent a mess. to you.

TotalChaos · 18/03/2011 07:53

I quite like the gaming mags, me and ds both enjoy them! Anyone elses child still into cbeebies, sigh. Tho I let him watch the freeview music channels too, so he switches enthusiasm between waybuloo and lady gaga....

coppertop · 18/03/2011 11:58

I will gladly take your CBeebies-loving child and give you a devoted fan of Craptoon Cartoon Network in return. I try to show an interest but every time I just figure out which Ben 10 alien is which, the buggers go and bring out new ones.

And then there's the joy of Bakugan (also on Cartoon Network) where many a conversation goes along the lines of:

Ds: I can't find my [insert instantly forgotten name here] Bakugan! Have you seen it?

Me: Oh, is it this one?

Ds: No, that's Maximus Arsus. (or something like that) [Forgotten name] is blue!

Me: They all look the same to me.

wendihouse22 · 18/03/2011 12:27

My ds is a bit like this about the Disney Pixar Cars. You know, Lightening McQueen et al. It's cost me in the region of £300+ to get the definitive Cars collection from (seemingly) all over the world and I've spent huge chunks of my life (and I'm 48, I don't have time to waste) standing in line at the Post Office, collecting parcels which have been delivered whilst I was out. I swear the postman would wait behind a tree, see me leave the house and then try to "deliver" the parcel. Just for fun.

Anyhoo, now we have to go through the Cars (IN ORDER) speaking it's name, number, sponser, alias and....."what we like/dislike best about said car. If, at any point, I disturb this process by needing to speak to ANYONE else, we have to START ALL OVER AGAIN!!!

Oh God, there's another movie out in the summer....

yoshysmum · 18/03/2011 13:39

My ds is seven hf asd loves super mario, pokemon, peppa pig, ben 10.

he gave a lovely monologue on pokemon, to the (very patient) ladies in the post office on monday. He hardly paused for breath before rolling off another fact.Grin

We are from tyne and wear.

moosemama · 18/03/2011 13:42

Oh Bakugan - he's asked for a load of battle brawlers and an arena for his birthday. Am sensing a new obsession in the making. We have his cousin to thank for that one. Hmm

We have the confusion over which is which with ds2 and his flipping GoGos Crazy Bones. He has a massive collection of them and I am constantly being told off for not knowing which ones which and from which series. [sigh]

Both my boys still watch CBeebies, but claim its for their little sister's benefit. Hmm Big fans of Kerwhizz and Octonauts in particular and of course Nuzzle and Scratch! Argh! The only other ds1 watches is of course ..... Pokemon!

TotalChaos · 18/03/2011 15:34

How could i forget bakugan! And yes, they all look the flaming same, dh favours them as they are small and quiet so fairly inoffensive if extortionately expensive...... S used to be into cars, will jhave to see if the new movie re kindles the interest. Anyone else have a boy with an interest in hair, jewellery and disney princesses btw?

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 18/03/2011 15:44

You can buy 18 "bakugan" from ebay in a case for around £22. Not sure that they are the real thing but for DS they are the most exciting thing ever and he can earn one each week.

anonandlikeit · 18/03/2011 16:29

I'm in E anglia &ds2 is 8... this is a long shot i know but is obsessed with rubber, particularly sniffing it.... now there is no way i'm googling that or I really would attract the wrong answers.

But if any of you ahve like minded (or nosed) dc I'm sure they could swap rubber samples/marigolds!

Oblomov · 18/03/2011 17:22

Ds1(7), suspected AS, Surrey. Likes star wars, star wars lego figures, football ( spurs supporter, has no choice, becasue dh is), playing wii and ds games.
Has 2 friends, but friendship one sided, he likes them !

Marne · 18/03/2011 18:33

I have a dd1 with Aspergers who is 7 years old and obsessed with 'Club penguin', 'Moshi monsters' and Flags Grin, we are in Dorset (wiltshire border).
