I'm not liking all these threads on nt MN about AS

Sad

Today seems to be anti-Aspergers day on MN, threads claiming AS is not real (just poor parenting), and threads saying we should control our Aspies. Apparently we are pushy parents that are looking for a dx for our dc's who have behaviour problems caused by us Sad.

It makes me sad that there is still such a poor awareness of ASD and that people still think its down to bad parenting.

Maybe i should just stick to the sn threads Sad.

it happens every so often, Marne.

Not nice, and I'm not saying we should put up with it, but try not to let it upset oyu.

there was a spate of these threads a few months ago too - it'll all kick off of r afew days, and then quieten down again, or move onto benefits bashing, or G&T bashing.

people just love ot jump onto any old bandwagon rolling past...

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/01/2011 11:36

it's just trolls, they just pick on subjects likely to cause a good old fight, they are prob just silly young boys, seriously.

one of them is being deleted at least

tabulahrasa · 14/01/2011 11:53

s'gone

to be fair, I don't think the other one was about the child's behaviour at all or lack of parental control...it was about whether the mother had been rude or not

ihavenewsockson · 14/01/2011 11:53

it's sad isn't it. It's the others that come out of the woodwork that upset me- they genuinly believe we are all faking our children's conditions for our own reasons. Sad

silverfrog · 14/01/2011 11:55

...and it's gone.

I hate it when they delete those threads.

they should leave it htere, with a big banner across the top saying "MNHQ have reason to believe this thread was started in order to troll"

deleting it (as I said on the thread before it vanished) just leaves the fuckwits with the opportunity to say 'oh, I read once, from a therapist, no less, that over 90% of the AS children she saw should not have a dx - that just goes to d=show how over-dx'd it is"

leaving it, with all the rebuttals from parents who have been through the process would have been more beneficial

tabulahrasa · 14/01/2011 11:57

I was in the middle of agreeing with you when it went silverfrog

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/01/2011 11:58

I am pretty suspicious that the "others who come out of the woodwork" are also trolls/the same people with multiple accounts, never see a name I recognise, so don't let them get to you too much ihavenewsockson.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/01/2011 11:58

i must point out I didn't ask MNHQ to delete it, by the way!

silverfrog · 14/01/2011 12:02

have started a thread inSite stuff asking why it had ot go, rather than being left but marked as "probably a troll"

coppertop · 14/01/2011 12:06

I couldn't work out whether it was a troll or just someone who was just full of their own self-importance. The dinnerlady oracle was priceless though.

2shoes · 14/01/2011 12:07

your wrong it is also ant DS today, also seems anti CP and every other sn

silverfrog · 14/01/2011 12:08

Grin coppertop - according to that dx system, dd1 (severely ASD, in an ABA school with full time 1:1 tuition) is cured! wha-hey!

and all because she likes broccoli, and eats lentils Grin Grin

coppertop · 14/01/2011 12:11

I trust you'll be withdrawing all those fraudulent DLA claims, silverfrog?

Although I've read somewhere that school nurses and SENCOs can dx so you might still get away with your dastardly money-making scheme. Wink

tabulahrasa · 14/01/2011 12:13

my son must be fine too - we've yet to find a food he won't eat, or indeed fill him up...Confused rofl

I think I'm glad I didn't see it..
For those who have come to join in.. It's sad really to know some of those with 'nt' dc's may end up on sn .. Because I just though ds was a bit quirky when he was younger, certainly didn't think he had ASD/AS..
And it wasn't a dx I enjoyed getting.. ( let alone the stress associated with the assessments and the length of time it took!).

These threads do come about in circles though, tomorrow it'll be ADHD,they day after it will be cupcakes and bunting and benefits... And then everyone will yell about another government cut( but only that effects them)... Not even realising that services and support have been cut so much for SN.

Same ole same ole.

Niecie · 14/01/2011 12:41

Maybe by having such threads, trolls aside, some people do come to realise ASD isn't a made up condition. There is an awful lot of misconceptions about it and if you don't have experience first hand you won't necessarily realise what you think isn't true. IYSWIM.

I did have somebody apologise to me (I think - she might have been sarcastic I suppose) for not realising how hard it is to get a dx and for assuming there was some truth in the the Aspie BS OP. If she wasn't being sarcastic, it would be nice to think she won't make the same judgements again.

I am with Silverfrog - I don't think the thread should have been pulled but left standing with a warning.

Niecie · 14/01/2011 12:41

But diagnsis by dinner lady was a classic!

redhappy · 14/01/2011 13:02

silverfrog I would just like to say I think you spoke so well on that thread. I only managed the first 2 pages before I had to go and collect ds. But that was bad enough.

Good point about not deleting those threads too.

SantasMooningArse · 14/01/2011 13:28

I have donned my cloak of scepticism and decided these trols are Government sponsored by teh DLA review body, and pre-empting a clause saying no to people with AS. Not that I am a conspiracy theorist or anything Wink

There's something I read the other day, might be able to find a link, about Bettelheim (the one who really pushed the whole refrigertor aprenting thing) and how he something termed vicxtim guilt. Basically, he felt that people who didn;t survive traumatic events or beat challenges had failed becuase of their lack of ability not anything else (he was talking about the holocaust where he was in a camp, but that could be extrapolated to carers, disabled etc). It's something I directly recognise in at least one MN poster and is common in these troll types I think. It's worth remembering then we encounter it that it can be a symptom of mental health diifulties and a serious lack of empthy and they deserve our support in trying to become well.

silverfrog · 14/01/2011 14:00

Blush redhappy

sancti - good to see you back Smile

could you all add your thoughts to the thread in site stuff, please?

Justine has replied, and is thinking about what ot do re: threads like that one, and the more opinions hte better!

Bonkerz · 14/01/2011 14:08

could this anti aspergers thing be because they are currently reclassifying the DSV10 ( think thats right) and getting rid of aspergers so all ASD will be under the same umberella as such? you will always get the ignorant people who dont belive in autism but they are more than welcome to walk 24 hours in my shoes with ds and then tell me its all imagined!
