Best sling or carrier for newborn? (cheap!)

I have a three week old baby, and a four year old. The baby doesn't like to be put down and I was thinking a sling might help for the nursery run and to let me get some jobs done round the house. He's 10lb and I don't expect I'll use it much past the newborn stage.

I don't have much to spend but have a boots voucher so looking to get one from there or cheap as possible. I don't fancy the wrap style ones.

Any recommendations?

I would ask this in the fb group slings and things- advice seems to be to avoid high street ones which leave your child's legs dangling. Ideally you want legs and bum in a m shape with the material going from knee to knee. Also much more ergonomic and comfortable for the both of you if baby faces you not the outside world. I would recommend an ergo or a stretchy sling to start with but loads of advice on the fb sites. Good luck! Oh and follow the TICKS recommendations for safe baby wearing!

I was coming to suggest a wrap. stretchy wraps are great for little ones.

If you don't think you will use it long maybe hire from a sling library instead? Then you can change if it didn't work did you and try a few on their with someone to help you with the technique?

Ive just had a look on Boots website and they dont really seem ti have much of a selection tbh.

What about hiring a sling? I asked for this baby (will pop to a sling library once he us born) and they can be about £8 a month.

There should be a sling group near you, you go & try them all & can borrow one to see how you get on.

Ours is through our children's centre.

Stretchy wrap really is best when theyre little. Theyre not as complicated as they look - see if you can get someone to show you?

And an ergo once they can hold their head up properly themselves.

Give stretchy wraps a go. Liberty Slings and Victoria Sling Lady are both affordable options.

Not one of those godawful Bjorn Baby things that everyone seems to get (bad for baby and uncomfortable). I had woven wraps which were great, but if they're not for you, I've heard many recommend stretchy wraps. Only problem there us that the baby will soon grow out of them and you might want to continue using a sling of some sort past the stretchy wrap stage. Google 'babywearing' - there's tons of specialist advice out there!

I have seen three suppori posts this afternoon, I am suspecting a little ad campaign as of course they are not suitable for a newborn.
I would recommend the close caboo.

Connecta is an ergonomic buckled sling suitable from newborn and relatively cheap. It will last until your baby is 12-18 months and is small enough to keep in your changing bag. You can't buy them at Boots though.

I got a Close Caboo from eBay for about £25. Really comfortable DS is six days old and it's his favourite mode of transport.

We've just bought a Tricotti on ebay for £10. With DD1 I found our Moby wrap too much of a learning curve to tie with a newborn, whereas this is just 2 tubes of fabric which are much easier to put on. That said DD2 hasn't arrived yet and I can only comment on the basis of carrying DD1's baby doll...

If you want to use it for a long time a woven wrap would be better than a stretchy. I got a stretchy but didn't get on with it, but I love the woven. If you look on facebook babywearing pages there are often wraps for sale second hand that could be a cheaper way of getting one. YouTube has lots of videos of how to use them too.

I had a moby wrap and I really wanted to make it work but got on much better with a Baby Bjorn. I couldn't seem to get DS to hold his head against my chest like they are supposed to in the wrap, he kept trying to look around causing his head to lol back, where as the Bjorn supports his head. It's also much, much easier to put on and DS seems to love it. I wear it a lot and have never found it uncomfortable in the slightest.

Really depends on what kind of price is cheap for you. Slings are usually super expensive ! :)
I've paid £51 for my pitarri sling. Really like it. Soft, easy to put on and secure. I think the price isn't too much :) but maybe you should check out second-hand sling/wrap groups or try sling library :) Maybe they'll have something better to offer.
