Only lost 1 measly lb 😓

Hello all,
I started last Monday, I have been eating porridge with fruit every morning. Home made vegetable soup for lunch and stir fry and meat for tea. I have kept milk to moderation. I only had one bag of crisps Saturday night. Where have I went wrong?
I know people will say a pound is still a loss but I go up and down a pound or more everyday.
I have always low carbed and it has worked but it's just not sustainable for me.
Can I have some feed back where I'm going wrong please?

1lb a week is a good maintainable loss. I honestly think most weight loss doesn't work because people think it will be instant. Don't weigh yourself every day. Chose a day and a time and weigh once a week. Slow and steady wins the race.

Flyingf1edgelings · 11/05/2020 12:22

Thank you peppa, I only weighed myself last Monday and this morning. I just thought the 1st week was the biggest loss 🥺 I'm going to cut back on fruit I think I may have over done it 😬

How much do you need to lose? What's your water intake like? Are you exercising?

Flyingf1edgelings · 11/05/2020 14:11

I need to loose 2 stone. I'm not very good with water intake but I'm going g to try harder this week and try cut milk out.

Wanderlust21 · 11/05/2020 14:20

Hmm...I usually lost 2lbs in a week if I'd been easy on myself.

On week one I would expect a good loss too.

I did stop eating pasta as I found it halted my weight loss, personally.

I lost 15lbs and got down to around 8 stone. Took a good few months. But it worked. Literally no exercise increase either xD

Its probably just something you haven't even thought would add weight. Are you grilling all your meat? What is your snacking like?

Wanderlust21 · 11/05/2020 14:22

Oh and defo increase the water - not because of weight loss but because if you increase fibre and not water, you'll get piles! (Alas, speaking from exp there too xD)

Flyingf1edgelings · 11/05/2020 14:29

I havent even snacked, haven't eaten bread or potatoes or pasta only meat veg fruit and porridge in mornings. Only snack I have is an orange before bed.
I feel less bloated and do feel like I've lost weight but I cant see it in the scales.
I only broke diet with crisps Saturday and they were 98calories. I'm hoping I'm holding onto water weight and i will get a good pass next week.

I am 10st 7 now and it's my heaviest I have ever been and I carry all my weight in my tummy and back. If I even got to 9st I'd be delighted.

Are you using all your syns? Defo up your water intake. It take me 10 days to see results on the scales

Sforsh49 · 11/05/2020 14:39

This is going to sound weird, but are you eating enough? You need to eat to loose weight. I also found with SW that I needed a minimum of 5 Syns a day and lost more if I had 5-10 a day. I suggested this to a girl at work when she had a disappointing first week and hadn't used any Syns, and then using Syns helped her lose too.

Wanderlust21 · 11/05/2020 14:41

Hmm..I found I had to stay 7syns or below per day to lose weight. It probably varies per person. Took me time to work it out.

Maybe it will drop 3lbs next week :) could just be you had extra water that day. Try weigh yourself first thing in mornings , you'll always be lighter :)

Flyingf1edgelings · 11/05/2020 15:01

I weighed myself first thing this morning, I havent used syns bar the crisps I had. I definitely have eaten plenty I had large portions of fruit and veg and stir fry is large portion. I have a big appetite so I'm not starving myself . I'm going to maybe reduce portions. Starting green tea with lemon instead of tea incase it's the milk

Wanderlust21 · 11/05/2020 15:03

Could well be.
Can but try op. Hopefully next week will be better.

Flyingf1edgelings · 11/05/2020 15:03

I'm on the end of my period, would that effect it?

torthecatlady · 11/05/2020 15:04

I haven't done slimming world before, but you might lose more next week? I'm currently on WW and usually find the first 2 weeks I lose the most.

torthecatlady · 11/05/2020 15:05

I'm always a couple of lbs heavier on my period!

Wanderlust21 · 11/05/2020 15:05

I usually find I'm a bit heavier at that time of the month. So maybe.

Flyingf1edgelings · 11/05/2020 15:09

I'm not going to give up. I will tweak a few things, thank you wmeveryone 🤗

A calorie deficit is the only way to go. If you don't eat in a deficit you won't see any changes. Track your calories and be honest with what you're putting in your tracker. Weight loss is 90% food and 10% exercise.

Doesnt' matter what you eat within those calories just as long as its below your normal intake. 166 cals in 1 cup of otameal, unsure which sruit you had with this, I'm going to assume blueberries 100g 57 cals, and milk as FF 136 cals = 359 Cals. Vegetable soup really depends which vegetables you used lets take a guess at = 120 cals. Stir fry now a (serving) of the stir fry if home made would be around 250cals for the meat if it was beef then this would come out at 213cals for 85g serving = 463cals. For your crisps i'll go for one of the nations faves of Walkers Salt and Vinegar Crisps which comes out at = 184 cals. Total cals for the day = 1126cals.

This is all bearing in mind you are going with a serving

Now this is WAY under your cal goals lower than what the average human being needs just to function let alone exercise or doing anything extra! If you are eating below this then your body is more likely to go in to a sort of emergency response in which it will hold fat to maintain jst being alive.

When trying to lose weight you should eat between 100 - 200 calories less than what you normally would. Otherwise it is very diffuclt to maintain. I see women dratically cut calories all the time and wonder why they find it hard to maintain and put weight back on and then some. This is why! becuase you don't eat enough your body starves, Panics and eats as much as it can of high cal foods in one sitting and it becomes a very vicious circle.

This is an idea of my portion size, is it too much?

I'm going to calorie count and measure everything I make. Is 1500 calories a day too much?

OP posts:
Wanderlust21 · 11/05/2020 22:08

Looks fine to me.

I actually disagree with the counting calorie thing though. I think it's most important not to leave yourself hungry. Because then you might binge.

Plan your meals and for me, grapes and cucumber were godsend as snacks.

Buttons44 · 12/05/2020 07:09

1500 is great 😊 even if you ain't calorie counting as long as you're eating under what you normally eat. You should see a difference. There are pros and cons of both calorie counting and eating intuitively. But with counting calories at least you KNOW you're under and you KNOW you should be losing some weight whereas if you dont count them you are more likely to over eat because you think well I've only had this, this and this today so I deserve a biscuit. But that biscuit could easily be your 100 cals over. There are other factors to this like days you move more and such but for ease let's just say you over eat by 125 cals each day every day to gain just over 1 stone in a year. So even just eating 125 cals less each day you'll lose a stone each year.
