Weight is going back on - where do I go from here?

I'm gutted. Despite staying on plan, and rarely going over syns, the weight has started to creep back on. I had lost 2.5 stone and was only a pound away from target, now I'm a stone away from target. Started on HRT recently and that seems to have made it worse. Anyone else?

Switch to WW it promotes a healthy lifestyle with an excellent app

Mumof1andacat · 02/03/2020 08:24

Get back to basics. Making sure you attend classes(weigh in and stay for meeting) write everything down and give your food diary to you group leader to check every week.

eosmum · 02/03/2020 09:03

Thanks for the replies, WW didn't work for me and the only group nearby closed.

I have done a month of food diaries and nothing is coming from it. I wasn't using my full HEX's but that was all. My consultant has been great, but she's stumped as well.

Can you post your food diaries so we can help?

I don't do SW and never have but that looks like a load of food to me. Have you tried calculating the calories on an app like My Fitness Pal? I know this diet doesn't count calories but it might help. I reckon you would be better with a diet with proper nutritious food rather rice puddings and 0% fat yogurts. However that is just my opinion.

Apolloanddaphne · 02/03/2020 15:13

Also why all the oranges? That's about 250/300 calories per day just in oranges. I can make an entire dinner for that.

SouthernComforts · 02/03/2020 15:17

How many calories per day are you eating? Work out your TDEE using an online calculator, subtract 200 and start counting your calories. If you still aren't losing weight then speak to your gp to see if there is an alternative medication you can switch to.

dancemom · 02/03/2020 15:26

SW isn't about calories though. You either calorie count or follow SW plan.

Jobseeker19 · 02/03/2020 15:30

Start weightlifting. That's what stopped me from regaining what I had lost.
I use kettle bells and follow Shelley Darlington on YouTube.

Apolloanddaphne · 02/03/2020 15:35

I know SW isn't about calories in general but at the basic level it really must be. All diets are energy in versus energy expended at the most basic level. It's just that all calories are not created equal in terms of nutrition and ability to fill you up etc.

SouthernComforts · 02/03/2020 15:50

I know it isn't. SW is no longer working for the OP though and she asked what next.. so that is my suggestion as to what I would do next.

eosmum · 02/03/2020 17:57

@Jobseeker19 my dh is a competitive weightlifter and would love nothing more than training me. Will let him as last resort.

Sorry to clarify the oranges are the tiny easy peelers.

Do you really think too much food. I’m still hungry 😩. The largest portion is the 2 weetabix. I’ll try work out the calories and see, thanks for the advice.

Goatinthegarden · 08/03/2020 06:33

I don’t do SW, but I would swap all the yoghurts, rice pudding and oranges for measured amounts of grains in the salads - cous cous, quinoa, Freekah, whatever. It will stop you feeling hungry and give you energy.

Then, exercise. The lbs will melt off with frequent exercise.

caulkheaded · 08/03/2020 06:39

How much exercise are you doing?

I’m not a SW fan so can’t comment on the food you’re eating much but I would be having more veg and less sugary things (0% yoghurt, chocolate, oranges). Can you have some other snacks?

Lanaa · 08/03/2020 06:46

The cynic in me thinks that SW is designed to make the weight fluctuate and therefore keep you going back. I know SW isn't about calories, but have you plugged the food into MFP? You might be surprised at the amount you're eating.

Mintlegs · 08/03/2020 06:48

What are you drinking in the day?

caulkheaded · 08/03/2020 07:11

How do portions work in SW? Is it “eat as much as you want from these lists” or a recommended one egg, one sausage, two toms etc

CheddarGorgeous · 08/03/2020 07:52

Disclaimer. I know nothing about SW and I am a low carber.

I would feel hungry on that food diary because the sugar would send me crashing several times a day and lead to serious cravings.

You say you are "still hungry" how are you actually feeling? Can you keep a diary of when you are hungry to find out what is making you feel hungry and why?

Snausage · 08/03/2020 07:57

Hi OP. The difficulty with SW is that, whilst you may be sticking to the plan content-wise, there's little guidance on the volume you should be eating. Their theory is that the amount of food you eat will naturally decrease as you lose weight, but this is not always the case. Looking at your food diary, you do seem to have a lot of carbs and sugar in your diet. If it were me, I would be knocking back the carbs to once a day (probably at lunch time) and reducing your fruit intake as well as your syns. I would also take PP's advice and track your calories on something like MFP so that you can really understand how much you're eating.
Good luck! I know what a struggle it is to lose weight.

Doglover123a · 08/03/2020 07:57

I would say you are very carb heavy . I try to limit my carbs so would only have rice pasta or potatoes once a day . If you have pasta at lunch don’t have for dinner etc . Use lots of speed food . Load up on spinach and salad.

Doglover123a · 08/03/2020 08:00

For example one day you had potato , rice and rice pudding . I see later in week though it was better. Good luck . I struggle too to keep my weight off but I like SW

SparklingLime · 08/03/2020 08:04

Agree that’s a lot of carbs. Have a look at www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb

SparklingLime · 08/03/2020 08:05

Going lower carb is likely to reduce your appetite. It’s had a massive effect on mine.

AppleKatie · 08/03/2020 08:06

You can and should combine SW with calorie counting if you want it to work long term imo.

So many people with stories like yours op. It’s possible the HRT is making you hungrier. If you are eating bigger portions of the same food you will be putting on weight.
