How the hell can this have a syn value?

I got the new SlimWell Beef Lasagna from Aldi which is fab. However, when I put it through the syn calculator it comes back at 4.5 syns! What I don't understand is the SW Beef Lasagna is free, but the SW version contains more calories and fat than the Aldi version?!

Same goes for Chicken Tikka Masala. The Aldi version is lower in calories and fat than the SW version. I have also noticed that Slimzone and SlimWell still isn't on the app....! I like SW but this is the part where they are beginning to take the piss. We pay enough to be members as it is, but to rip us off by getting us to pay £3 for their meals against £1.99 in Aldi, even though their meals contain more calories and fat is diabolical! I am classing the Beef Lasagna as "free" because of this reason!

Attached nutritional value "chicken tikka masala" between the SlimWell version and SW version!

Because syns are a load of bollocks, and SW are happy to rip people off by pretending that their ready meals are healthy.

trove · 25/06/2018 16:18

Neither of them are healthy, in fact quite the opposite.

Why would a massive corporation based on getting people to eat certain foods and which sells their own brand of "healthy" meals to fit with their diet plans want to make people believe that their own brand meals are better than rival brands?

Not got a clue. Can't be about making money through lying to people can it?

beenandgoneandbackagain · 25/06/2018 16:30

Are Slimming World the organisation that rate avocados as worse for your diet than a can of cider? And jacket potatoes are "free" food so you can eat as many as you want?

SW are not only taking the piss, they're also very out of step with latest scientific thinking around diets.

I'm convinced SW want to lock their customers into a cycle of yo-yo dieting.

SleepIsForTheWeek · 25/06/2018 16:32

Because they want you to buy their meals which they get a cut of rather than Aldi's which they don't. Nothing to do with syns.

Timeisslippingaway · 25/06/2018 16:37

Slimming word is a load of shite. I joined a few years ago, bloody rip off 7 pounds to stand on a scale and tell me how to lose weight (I was not over weight! Just very self conscious and had body issues. They were happy to take my money though). Counting syns, rationing milk etc is ridiculous. Your body needs healthy fats to stay healthy and news flash no one ever became obese from drinking more than 100ml of milk a day, or whatever ridiculous amount you are allowed.

theunsure · 25/06/2018 16:40

What more proof do you need that it is a massive con?

Honestly, try the 5:2. So easy and after the first week (which is hard) it is very easy to stick to and works really well. I lost loads on it a few years ago, felt very energised and my Dad manages his type 2 diabetes with this plus managing blood sugar levels.

The whole low fat, full of sugar diet crap industry is awful.

Namethecat · 25/06/2018 16:41

The sw one has over 3 teaspoons of sugar in it. 4.1g of sugar is roughly 1 teaspoon of sugar.

I'm always surprised that you can eat a Mullerlight yoghurt and they are free ( so you can eat several a day ) yet if you convert the sugar content it's a massive amount of sugar per pot.

Timeisslippingaway · 25/06/2018 16:42

Oh and as a previous PP said, avacodos, nuts etc they are all bad for you and will make you fat but yes have as much diet fizzy juice as you like. I actually told the leader of the group all this as she insisted I give her a reason for leaving, she didn't take it very well. If I had been creepier I would have asked her how she became a leader for SW while still being obese herself.

I know load sod people on slimming world. They’ve been on it for years. Tells me all I need to know.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/06/2018 16:46

Loads of*

whiskeysourpuss · 25/06/2018 16:58

My SIL is on this & every time I see her she goes on about she can't eat this or she can't eat that because it's got so many syns in it... or she's trying to convert me with "it's dead easy & you can eat so much..." " you're allowed 250ml of milk a day... I just put mine in a measuring jug first thing & that's me set for the day aheads tea/coffee"...

It's a big enough fight to get one of the boys at work to take a turn at making the coffee in the first place without going "oh & by the way make sure you only put 25ml of milk in mine - it's in the jug in the fridge" they'd tell me to piss off & make my own & while I'm there anyway I might as well make theirs!

I'm fucking evil though & pile half a pound of butter on the potatoes when we're all at mums for Sunday dinner Grin

She's still obese after being on it for as long as I've known her great advert where do I sign up Hmm

KanyeWesticle · 25/06/2018 17:01

Because a syn is an imaginary vanity marketing measure and nothing to do with calories, fats or health.

sociopathsunited · 26/06/2018 16:06

Yep, it's just a ploy to get you to spend your hard earned money on their branded stuff rather than anyone else's. I joined SW a while back and was horrified at it when I realised that all their "this is easy peasy" advertising was a crock of shit. There are a gazillion rules they don't tell you about.

Yes, pasta and rice are "free". BUT, and it's a MASSIVE BUT, you can only eat a limited amount of it.

So it's not free. It's limited. It's fucking well limited. It's utter bollocks.

sociopathsunited · 26/06/2018 16:06

A banana is free.

But mash it to use as a sandwich filling.....

you have to "syn" it.

I'm angry I wasted money joining.

totallyliterally · 26/06/2018 16:09

Only way to lose weight is understanding what you eat and that all food / drinks have calories and macro nutrients.

And that you need to be in a calorie deficit to lose fat.

If you don't understand what food contains, as you've only learnt syn values then you won't long term be able to make any good choices about food.

Hence people need to stay on SW for the rest of their lives. And when they stop majority out weight back on.

cloudyweewee · 26/06/2018 17:40

You mash and banana up when you eat it, so presumably you have to swallow it whole to stop the syns coming.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/06/2018 17:46

I absolutely could not believe the amount of processed, synthetic and chemical-laden shit SW seem to actively encourage eating. It’s so outdated and I hated every minute - anything that has a fatwa on fucking NUTS is cockeyed.

If you need to lose weight in a controlled manner please read Michael Moselys “Fast Diet”; it’s basically the 5:2.

quackingduck222 · 26/06/2018 18:03

I’m just going to leave this here:

I think it sums up slimming worlds made up bullshit pretty well.
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?storyfbid=1427077977382595&id=625379420885792&&_rdr

Definitely agree with 5:2 it’s a life changer and best of all, it’s free.

Timeisslippingaway · 26/06/2018 19:07

😂 that video is hillarious.

Timeisslippingaway · 26/06/2018 19:09

I was told by the leader of the group, after I told her I was leaving because I didn't agree with the the rules. That it is recommended by doctors to people who are obese. Is this true?

MrsHappyAndMrCool · 26/06/2018 19:14

Slimming World are just a bunch of crooks.

quackingduck222 · 26/06/2018 19:18

Timeless - it made me laugh too.

Unfortunately what your saying is correct. It is endorsed by the NHS. Most doctors give overweight patients free vouchers to attend. I did read that SW pay the NHS for them to promote them.

itsbritneybiatch · 26/06/2018 19:23

You can and do lose weight with SW but they don't play nice with others.
