Why is class so boring?

I've just joined SW. I was feeling really motivated. Sat through one class and left wanting to eat the entire contents of my biscuit tin in despair.

It's so long and boring! I had forgotten the drawn out faffage of going round everyone and discussing their gain/losses. Mostly gains! How is that motivating? It's not interesting in the slightest especially 10 minutes spent on one person etc.

Why do they do this? Why not 'group has lost xx lbs' then an quick chat to a couple of folk then move on? I don't want to face that every week! It's supposed to motivate but I'm not sure I can do that every week!

I can't be the only one who thinks this?

I stopped going because of the tedious, pointless, interminable classes and also I hated that the consultant was always off doing her induction talk with new members so there were random people weighing me and commenting/clucking sympathetically.

I particularly hated it during the times when I was pregnant and not aiming to lose loads of weight but didn't want to explain this to random weighers so they'd start chatting about why I'd maintained or gained. If SW is supposed to be pregnancy-friendly they need to rethink how the classes are structured.

I've really gotten fed up with my class - it completely eats a weekday evening and is at an inconvenient time. I'm starting to resent it and skip a few meetings. I've been thinking about going it alone but know that I need the accountability of getting on the scales. There's a WW meeting at a much better time (on the way home from work). I'm seriously thinking of going to WI there, would that be weird? I don't get much guidance from my SW leader anyway. I used to find WW meetings actually quite useful for tips, just found the diet itself too restrictive.

I have just joined online after being a member a few times before. I almost went to class because I didn't want the upfront cost of online but I couldn't face staying for IT for even one night. The last class I went to, she was OK and lively but the group was so big it took forever to go round and I just don't have the time for that and I didn't learn anything new. She used to get quite frustrated with me because I think the how much are you aiming to lose next week is a ridiculous question. I have no control over that. Bodies do not act on command and I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. What I do have control over is what I put in my mouth so I used to answer that my aim was to stay on plan. She didn't like that and would push it so in the end I would just say a loss would be nice. I think it is all very scripted and because she was the area manager too I think she stuck to it.

Incidentally I have just given up on WW meetings. They have always been shorter and to the point but this time I went to a meeting for three weeks where the whole conversation was about snacking on crap and what you could get away with for your points. Nothing about healthy eating or exercise. One person had made some hideous concoction of a pikelet, lemon curd and marshmallow fluff that "tasted just like lemon meringue pie" (yeah of course it did) and we spent ten minutes or so each week discussing that for the benefit of people who had missed the other weeks. Anyone would think she had split the atom. The final straw was when the leader said she was going to bring the ingredients in so we could all try it and went to the drop in meeting by my work instead. No way was I eating that!

Last night there was six of us. It was quite a good class. Got on the subject of soups, so lots of new ideas. Help for people who need help with snacking. There were also 4 awards.
