Is this the normal format for classes?

First timer so not sure and I hated it!
The consultant went through a huge list saying all the losses, even of those who weren't there.
Hazel has lost 2 lb, clap clap
How have you done that, Hazel?
So. hazel has stuck to plan! Clap, clap.
Julie has lost 1lb! Clap, clap. Oh, Julie isn't here.
And Lesley has lost 3lb! Clap clap.
I don't really want to be speaking in front of a load of people like that, I didn't realise it would all be made public.
Is this what a class is normally like?

We have to set a target. I only list a bloody pound and I was pretty good so everyone was saying 3/4 and I said 1!
She asks everyone a twatty question

  • so how is your plate different from before?
  • how do you manage, being a busy mum?
  • how do you manage at work?
I made some lovely this but she didn't ask me! I know they're not tatty things really but I felt really put on the spot, I suppose that will get easier as I get to know people.

The targets aren't you know, actual targets...nothing happens if you set 4lb and lose 2, it's just to get you motivated for the week Smile

Some people set tiny ones because they don't like not meeting them, I set like 4lb because I know in a good week I can do that and if I'm aiming for 4 I'll try harder than if I'm aiming for 1, but I'm fine with any off at all, so it means I at least get in a couple of good days before going, meh, lol

Yeah as you get to know people you get more confident at answering and at actually saying something different instead...I'll quite happily go, ach I'm rubbish at organising (if that's what she asked me for instance) but I wanted to tell yous I found this in a shop, made this it was lovely or wanted to ask if anyone had any good ideas for x.

Flossyfloof · 02/03/2016 13:31

But last night loads of people had lost half a stoner it only being their second week! I will only lose a couple of pounds if I am lucky!
I will stick it out, it is just that that kind of groin mentality doesn't suit me. She also does this which side won thing - total weight loss on each side of the room - I am sure some people find it all motivating but I don't.
I don't mean to denigrate anyone who does thou, and anyone who has needed to lose weight knows that anything that motivates is good.

Groin? Group!!

Lovemytent · 02/03/2016 21:06

Following (as not enjoying my group and wondering if i should swithc to online only)....

Flossyfloof · 02/03/2016 23:31

How long gave you been going? They say that you lose more by going to a group. I am not sure how the price compares to online. I am going to carry in for a bit longer. Can you try another group?

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 03/03/2016 00:09

You can go to any group at all.

Good groups are really useful, you should be getting recipe ideas and help with loads of stuff just from other people chatting.

Online only is expensive I think, it's currently £59.95 for 3 months access to the website.

Katenka · 03/03/2016 10:13

I did online first and lost the same 6lb about four times.

I don't do well weighing myself. And you need to pay in chunks.

Why not try another group for a week?

Our group does the one side vs the other side. But at our group it's a bit of fun and everyone enjoys it. It's a bit of laugh.

We do give a target, even if it's just a loss. It helps a lot of people focus. Some people just say a loss or even 'just to stay on plan all week'.

Our consultant is really good. I went to other clubs before and the consultants were dire. It does make a difference.

I have had got some fab recipes from group and some great ideas. But it might not be for everyone.

Flossyfloof · 03/03/2016 10:46

It's great that you can go to another group. This one suits me best time-wise but I am going to make a list of other groups so that I can nip to another one if I am free, just to see what it is like. Horses for courses really, I suppose.

Have followed this with interest as I have recently joined and been a bit Hmm

But someone sent me this link today and they have it spot on.

Spartak · 06/03/2016 10:11

I only stayed for one meeting which was busy as it was mid January. After an hour of clapping individuals there was a 20 minutes discussion about spreading muller light on rice cakes. It was like a scene out of Little Britain.

I haven't been back since.

Flossyfloof · 06/03/2016 10:28

Oh dear, Spartak, you are not giving me any heart!!

I really like the eating plan, it suits me and my lifestyle, and seems to be working.

But the class was awful! There was also a raffle for some hideous notebook that I got bullied into buying a ticket and a fruit bowl of over ripe bananas for slimmer of the week Smile

NigelLikesSalad · 06/03/2016 11:00

I used to go years ago but lost heart with the groups because the format just used to bore me to tears. Recipe sharing and ideas wise is good but there's just to much emphasis at over concentrating on individuals and I hated it. Then Peter Kay did a pretty spot on send up on slimmers world meets and I stopped going. Still makes me chuckle everytime I see it on You Tube.

Done SW before , never stayed for class . l joined in Jan this year and class is 3.30pm so l go after work , can be flexible with finish time . Odd mix at class , lots of mums just collected kids weigh in and go then the others ! Average age prob 60 ( l am 52 , cider drinking , festival going 52 ! ) A couple of ladies are 70s and 1 is 80 ! I stay to group ! Usual format but l just sit and chill after work listening to these ladies ! Odd younger one stays , not many ! It is hilarious ! Leader is funny and kind , some of them def only go for tea and see their pals ! Only been going 9 weeks and l have done well , couldn't stay last week work probs , really missed it ! Better than therapy ! So thinking this group was a lucky find ! X

TwoTonTessie · 06/03/2016 20:34

I must admit that found it a bit daunting and cheesy when I first joined a group. However I stuck with it and found it to be full of really funny people. Despite reaching target a while ago I still go every week for the motivation and entertainment Grin Not all groups are like my one though so you may have to try a couple before finding one that suits.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/03/2016 20:44

Try a new class. The one I go to is much Better than some of these. Yes we have a raffle but its usually a good prize and it pays for your tea or coffee too. There's usually a good basket of fruit for slimmer of the week. Its a bit happy clappy but no one drones on. I just ignored all the recipes and Muller light love, that doesn't do it for me. Last week I passed my baby ds around because a lady had lost 18lb and couldn't 'visualise' it, and he weighs that amount. Its not cool or sophisticated but there's some genuinely kind people and it definitely keeps me on track. Its a lot of money to just weigh and go as well

peachypips · 11/03/2016 19:01

I too find the class absolutely dire. It takes an hour and a half to get round everyone and I feel so impatient! Feels like a waste of time. I would love it if they focused on tips, recipes etc.
However, I continue to go because the diet is good, it works and I'm committed to the full process. Drives me mad though.

JennyOnAPlate · 11/03/2016 19:14

The eating plan itself works really well but the meetings are hideous.

Our local one has a huge number of members and so the meetings just go on, and on, and on. I stuck it out for 3 weeks and then it was announced that we were all expected to turn up with a slimming world dessert the next week. I didn't go back.

Parker231 · 11/03/2016 19:54

I gave up after trying 3 different groups. I'm not interested in what weight others have lost and don't have an hour and a half to sit around discussing different ideas for meal planning. The SW format is dreadful. I ended up using the SW format but doing it myself. I set myself a weigh in day each week and went to Boots where the scales gave a print out - this kept me going and on track

randomer · 13/03/2016 10:49

honestly so much respect for anybody going it alone. I need the group and SW is as good a plan as any. The groups are terrible though. The last one I went to it was like the ego has landed. The ego being her in charge. Mind numbing and she had her favourites.

On the other hand I dislike being this weight and need the structure and discipline of a group.

Flossyfloof · 13/03/2016 14:30

I feel, especially at this stage, that I need the group as well. It is just so dire though! I am going to have to find another group this week anyway so I will be going somewhere else and might stay to see what it's like. So many people have agreed that the format is rubbish I don't know why they don't do something about it!
As others have said, I am not interested in someone else's weightless and don't feel the need for the validation of others for my own, some people seem to love it though.
The taster session was much better. I spoke to a few people and definitely got some ideas for meals. Can't remember if I have alread said that!!

randomer · 14/03/2016 14:27

hilarious.....screaming kids, went on for hours, bored out my head......whats not to like?

Linda131963 · 05/04/2016 11:08

Just remembered this thread after enduring a bad session at my usually OK group ! Things were running late , lots of new starters which is nice when we came to round the room 1 woman had lost a pound and she was miffed ! After over 5 mins of hearing her every spoonful consumed etc l completely switched off , then hearing even where she ate breakfast on Sunday will to live faded !!! To cap it all , came to next person who is elderly and great fun Ms 1 pound and miffed started rattling her keys ! 2 more folk on she stood up and said gotta dash and went ! Wtf ! Think once weather gets better my weeks of staying will be numbered ! X

Flossyfloof · 05/04/2016 12:48

Hahaha! Funniest for me was last week when someone has put a few lbs on but we gave her a huge clap anyway - yeay, she had put on half a stone on a week but yeay she had stayed to body image or whatever it is! Hurrah!! Clap clap clap...
