Is this the normal format for classes?

First timer so not sure and I hated it!
The consultant went through a huge list saying all the losses, even of those who weren't there.
Hazel has lost 2 lb, clap clap
How have you done that, Hazel?
So. hazel has stuck to plan! Clap, clap.
Julie has lost 1lb! Clap, clap. Oh, Julie isn't here.
And Lesley has lost 3lb! Clap clap.
I don't really want to be speaking in front of a load of people like that, I didn't realise it would all be made public.
Is this what a class is normally like?

body magic is hoovering and dusting and image therapy is " well done Tanya at not eating all the chips with your Harversters tea"

Please get your terminology correct flossy. it is vital if you are to succeed on plan .

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 05/04/2016 13:59

I used to go to one years ago where they would announce that it was your 'star week' when you had your period - 'ooh, and Bastards has put on a pound but it's her STAR WEEK so that's really good'

randomer · 05/04/2016 14:19

were you like starring in a West End Show

calzone · 05/04/2016 14:33

I went to a Become a Consultant meeting.......but the thought of listening to over 200 people a week telling me their losses nearly finished me off!! :-)

randomer · 05/04/2016 15:30

you would be great at it....why not start a crazy revolution. Those that want thay format can have it and the rest have something more interesting to do....like tasting things or sharing ideas or whateves floats their collective boats. Or even half an hour pretend dusting or exercise

calzone · 05/04/2016 15:54

I agree randomer.

I honestly think if they did a poll, most would vote against the current format. It's soooooo boring.

I would love to do different recipes or tasting sessions or cooking. Unfortunately swhq are very very strict.

Flossyfloof · 05/04/2016 16:22

Calzone we all want to come to your group!
Sorry Randomer for not paying attention to correct terminology, I have let the side down and not even bought a raffle ticket ( because I didn't want one of those twatty baskets you get for your chips, you know, the ones you get in pubs that actually leak oil everywhere, nor did I want a couple of huge and hugely garish plastic wine glasses.
We have got another taster session coming up, I am looking forward to that. I made something and cut it into small triangles so that people could just help themselves. A few people had done this but lots of people had made cakes etc and there was something like a palette knife to cut them with so you just had to kind of hack away. it's things like her not thinking about that that wind me up.
I did get lots of ideas from it though.
I am just wondering whether to get changed and wear what I wear every week - should I take the chance of wearing jeans and a top instead of a tunic and tights?
I think everyone should wear a SW boiler suit, it could be green if you have lost weight and you could change into a red one if you have put on, I think that would really work.
You know they are always pushing SW ready meals? Why do they push Mullerlites too- are they in cahoots with Muller? I have noticed that some Muller yogs are free whereas the Aldi equivalent have half a syn. Just wondering if it is a not-so -subtle way of encouraging you to buy Mullers on your weightloss journey.

Yes I had noticed the pushing ready meals and Muller , l did comment about Total real Greek 0% yogurt being a good source of protein but was told not as yummy as Muller light although no additives etc ! The leader is nice but prahaps too nice if you see what l mean ! X

Sirzy · 05/04/2016 18:26

Thankfully my group is nothing like most here! Our consultant actually mentioned last week she no longer buys Mullerlight but the 0% Greeks yoghurts, the ready meals are only mentioned if someone else mentions them or when there are new ones out.

randomer · 05/04/2016 19:05

lol bloody mully muller......in what way are SW strict? i would love to do one with herbs or lots of different things

calzone · 05/04/2016 22:01

Well, SW are a brand and so they protect the brand by everyone doing the same thing every week......can't go off course and do your own thing.

randomer · 06/04/2016 09:24

calzone start brand calzone......it can't be worse

SignoraStronza · 06/04/2016 09:31

I really ought to start back at SW (I tend to do a vlcd or calorie counting though) to try and keep me on track. I'm pretty sure, having reached goal, I'll have to actually pay though.
It does remind me, for some unfathomable reason, of scenes from Roald Dahl's 'The Witches', with our SW leader in her body con dress as the grand high witch presiding over the adoring elderly village ladies.

randomer · 06/04/2016 15:31

eek! no body con at mine....exactly the same smock top thing every week.

tabulahrasa · 06/04/2016 16:21

" I have noticed that some Muller yogs are free whereas the Aldi equivalent have half a syn. Just wondering if it is a not-so -subtle way of encouraging you to buy Mullers on your weightloss journey."

It'll be because they use pectin instead of gelatine as a setting agent, well I'm assuming anyway as they're suitable for vegetarians and most muller light aren't, there was a key lime pie that was, but it used pectin and so wasn't free.

Flossyfloof · 27/04/2016 08:59

Well I stayed last night and honestly, she was so dismissive of me. I don't like the way she speaks to me at all. I feel as if I have given it a good go, staying to group but I am not putting up with this. She corrected me for saying "be good" rather than "on plan" but said nothing to the next person who said it. One lady who has done SW before but put on a bit and come back was asked what her target would be and she explained that setting a target doesn't work for her. Consultant said you try harder when you you set a target and if you reach for the moon you'll fall into the stars. Really pisses me off because I don't want to set a target every week and fail, doesn't mean I am not trying and doesn't mean I won't continue to try.

sorry but who are these people? Are they dieticians? NLP experts? NO.....they are Mrs Average trying to make a few quid.

The lady I have at present is lovely and I sat next to somebody interesting last week. Both pluses. The previous one I nicknamed " the ego has landed"

Flossyfloof · 27/04/2016 18:35

Yes they are. I suppose, experts in the diet but not necessarily anything else. I can't be doing with it. She was very dismissive with another lady a few weeks ago - I haven't seen that lady since. I will still go to be weighed and to buy bars etc but I am not stopping to be made to feel uncomfortable.

experts in swallowing SW mantra, but not experts in encouraging.

Geepee71 · 02/05/2016 16:05

Thanks for the link profpoop, read it before goi g to first meeting, spot on, especially clapping, clapping and more clapping! Loving the recipes on there too.

SealSong · 02/05/2016 16:13

Urrgh I'be been trying so hard to motivate myself to join slimming world, but this confirms all my worst nightmares about the classes. If they are as bad as some described on here no way will I be able to stick them.

Flossyfloof · 02/05/2016 17:11

I promised myself I would go to at least the first 4 and I have gone to almost every one. Don't let my moans get in the way of your weightloss journey! You can do this!
Seriously. I think the plan is very good and even though I don't like the classes I would recommend it. I have lost half a stone now ( clap clap) and I simply would not have done so if I hadn't been on plan Grin

Catmuffin · 02/05/2016 19:45

I have the same thing op. I've had a couple of different consultants in the past at different weight loss clubs. I've liked previous ones but am not keen on my new one. Someone hadn't been doing well and she was awful to her. She was saying "I don't know what to say to you." Going on and on in a mournful voice. Must have been humiliating for her. No way will i stay if i haven't lost as a result. Trouble is it's such a convenient place and time for me and i like the diet. I wish the meetings could be like Weight watchers though. A different topic covered each week rather than. "Barbara has lost a pound." Clap clap clap. "Pam has put on a pound" clap clap clap. "Catmuffin has fallen asleep." Clap clap clap.

Glitter2707 · 02/05/2016 21:47

I hate that format too! Last week she said the name 'Becky" and a girl said yes, she said you've lost 2lbs clap clap clap and she was like no hang on I've put on a pound! Wrong Becky, that was awkward!
I did originally go to a different class though which was much better & not like that, more like the leader just initiated a chat which people joined in with as they fancied. So I think it does depend on the person leading it. The clap clap clap format is deadly dull though, I like to think the rest of the group are grateful to have my two yr old running about like a loon to keep them awake Smile

pippy1958 · 12/05/2016 15:22

I am feeling exactly the same as a number of people on this thread and do wonder if Slimming World look at their feedback on mumsnet! I don't want to shop around as my class is very local to me but I find the who's lost what sooooo boring and it is always the same stuff - if I hear once more about Sarah's lack of a kitchen as she has still got the builders in, I will scream! But I will take a note of something mentioned here and say that I do not want it discussed if I have gained...

Also, my consultant has asked more than once who likes to save their syns for drinking, which is rather like being at an AA meeting (I assume, not having been Wine!).

I do think it helps to stay but I wish she'd mix it up a bit - there is very little in the way of recipes, help, etc, - and as is usual with many things, they never ask the customers (we are paying for this after all) what they would like to see...

Looking forward to a loss tonight so fingers crossed!
