Losing 6 stone... is it possible?

hello. I'm starting SW tomorrow and am thinking about my target weight. I'm 5 foot 7 but weigh nearly 17 stone (aaaargh!!). Nearly all my adult life i've hovered around 13 stone and although I know this is still overweight, I look OK at this weight and feel healthy.

the question is, do I give 13 stone as my target (4 stone loss) or (gulp) go for a 6 stone loss which would take me to 11 stone and finally put me within the 'healthy' weight for my height?

Is 6 stone a feasible loss (it sounds impossible) and how long would it take? I'm thinking about 18 months.

TIA for any help.

Hello folks,

I’ve been doing slimming world for 4 weeks and I’ve lost 8lbs so far. I weigh 20 stone so I’ve got a long way to go! I just wanted to ask, I’m filling up on free foods and trying to put lots of speed in as well, however I’ve only lost a pound these last few weeks. Other people in the group lose 3-4lbs and then they say oh I ate Chinese! Or I went out for lunch and ate loads of cake! It’s really getting me down. I had an un synned bar of chocolate this week and that’s it. My friends say I should be getting big losses because I’m heavy but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I talked to my consultant and she said fill up on free food and put 1/3 speed on the plate which I am. However I just wondered if my portion sizes were too big? Does anyone restrict what free food they eat? I’m a bit confused because I’m always being told to fill up on free food but maybe if I want to lose I shouldn’t be? Does this make sense to anyone?! Thx

Hi Claireb, firstly, well done for joining slimming world. I too have a lot to lose and have been going for three weeks, I lost 6 pounds my first week, then five my second and four at weigh in last night. I don’t restrict my portions at all. I am mindful however, to include as much speed food as possible. I’ll tend to go to that for snacking before anything else. Apart from that, I really don’t limit. I’m sure my weight losses will gradually slow down but like others have mentioned, I target myself at half a stone at a time. I know others will cut down on the carbs if they are not getting weight losses and that seems to work. I thinks it’s a case of learning about what works for you and eating healthy. Keep going, it really is worth it.

@clarebb well done on your losses already. Are you having all your syns? With your weight you should be on 20 a day. My friend found when she used them all as she had them too that she lost better. It could be that you use them in cooking etc.

Drinking lots of water or diluted juice helps me too x
