Does your dd wear knickers at night?

I never have and was told as a young girl that it was unhygienic and bad for you. My dd is insisting on wearing them now she doesn't need nappies (she's 2.7) Should I insist on none (and put up with the tantrums) or let her wear them if she wants to?

Have never heard of it being unhygienic. Why? My dd's do wear knickers at night, as do I. let her

MissMalaprop · 16/01/2008 19:58

I don't have a daughter, but personally I can't bear to go to bed without knickers on, and as far as I can remember I have always worn knickers to bed. Even with pyjamas...

Seona1973 · 16/01/2008 19:59

no she doesnt but she also alternates between pj's and a nighty so would wearing pj's not be the same as wearing pants? You could always put a clean pair on for night-time. Maybe she needs the security of something on her bum as she's been used to having the nappy on.

ZippiBabes · 16/01/2008 19:59

why do people where nickers in bed?

DarrellRivers · 16/01/2008 20:00

we don't
suspect it isn't bAd for you though
suppose if she wAnts to, let her weAr them

Seona1973 · 16/01/2008 20:00

Am intrigued by this.

So would you wear a nightie with nothing underneath?

And if you wear a pyjama without knickers, you have to wash pyjamas every day! !

Lazylou · 16/01/2008 20:02

DH is really strict about this and insists that she does wear knickers to bed. I on the other hand are not bothered either way, but to keep him happy she wears them with a nightie and not if she's wearing pyjamas.

dyzzidi · 16/01/2008 20:03

I wear knickers for bed. I always have done .

DarrellRivers · 16/01/2008 20:03

My DD hAd some for ChristmAs.
They Are her best present.
I suspect it is the princess Aspect rAther thAn the knickers.
DS is weAring his ThomAs vest to bed currently As well As during the dAy

ZippiBabes · 16/01/2008 20:03

of course if you wear a nightie you wear nothing underneath

and yes you wash pyjamas every time

i usually wear nothing

or just a t shirt

and only wear any of them once

DarrellRivers · 16/01/2008 20:04

WeAr nightie with nothing
WeAr pjs with nothing

serenity · 16/01/2008 20:04

DD doesn't, but she usually wears PJs anyway. She's not that great at wiping herself so I like the idea of everything getting an 'airing' at night (PJs being a lot looser than pants) I don't think it's unhygenic though, if DD decided she really wanted to leave them on then I wouldn't have a problem.

MissMalaprop · 16/01/2008 20:05

Nooo Zippi. You change your pants every day and then wash the pyjamas every few days/weekly/montly (latter possibly only if you are slattern like me), but really, how dirty can pyjamas get?

DarrellRivers · 16/01/2008 20:06

oh I'm out coAl mining in mine
They get v dirty

Tiggerish · 16/01/2008 20:07

dd always wears pj's, but still wants pants on. You may well be right Seona with the security thing.

I think "bits" need a good airing too Serenity!

SpawnChorus · 16/01/2008 20:08

I don't wear knickers at night and I don't wash my PJs every day (but they are quite loose and don't fit snugly round my fanjita like knickers do). So I'm a slob, but I do have well-aired nether regions.

dooley1 · 16/01/2008 20:08

never wear knickers at night with a nightie
was told it was a good prevention of thrush to give bits a good airing!

serenity · 16/01/2008 20:11

That's good, I thought people might find the 'airing' thing a bit weird.......

jellybelly25 · 23/01/2008 14:49

I agree with the airing, and have never worn knickers to bed, but dd1 (8) says that it's uncomfortable not to wear them, the pjs stick in her bum or she says her bum feels funny. So I let her wear them, but I really wish she wouldn't as I think it's better not to.

Hulababy · 23/01/2008 14:53

My 5yo DD does, but I am trying to persuade her not too, as I think it is probably better for her not too. But at the moment she is insistent on keeping them on.

I don't wear pants in bed. I take them off when I put my PJs on in the early evening. I take PJs off for bed too. I don't wash my PJs every day though.

bozza · 23/01/2008 14:54

My DD went through a phase of wanting to wear them. Personally I think it is preferable not to, especially with pjs and as sweaty as DD is. I sometimes wear knickers when I have my period and I find it very uncomfortable because I am used to the freedom of no knickers. I would let her wear them if she wants - maybe with a long sleeve nightie?

IdrisTheDragon · 23/01/2008 15:08

I don't wear pants to bed, unless I am having a period. And I don't wash my pyjamas every day - I wash me and that seems to be all right.

DD still has a nappy, but when she doesn't, I assume she won't wear pants, unless she wants to.

DS doesn't wear pants in bed and his pyjamas aren't washed every day either.

JingleyJen · 23/01/2008 15:10

DH & don't wear anything in bed - DS1 wears PJ's (clean pair every night) No pants - DH wanted him to but I thought it was odd so and DS1 didn't mind either way.
