Baby nursery 28 degrees, how to dress??

Hi all

My 7 month olds nursery is 28 degrees at the moment. I'm worrying about him overheating as I can't seem to get the temperature down.

He is in a nappy with a light 0.5 tog sleeping bag and that's it. He also had a rotating fan that is timed for 3 hours rotating around the room . Does this sound OK at this room temp?

Sorry, anxious new mum xx

That sounds ok. It was high 30s here in Aus In the summer. A nappy & singlet with the fan on and 2 mth old baby was fine

Sapphirejane · 16/06/2022 18:59

It’s so difficult all this safe sleep/temperature stuff isn’t it! What you’ve done sounds fine as it will get cooler overnight.

DS is in a vest and nappy tonight but he is a little older than your baby

Twdfn123 · 16/06/2022 19:03

Gosh that's so hot, makes 28 sound like a breeze! 🤯🥵🥵

It really is. He's teething and suffering with the heat I think, bless him! Grumpy isn't the word 😬😪

And thank you hope your little one sleeps well tonight xx

Maybe leave sleeping bag off, nappy & vest would be enough

Twdfn123 · 16/06/2022 19:09

Oh OK, it keeps flipping between 27/28 and the skymbersac guide said 27 degrees is fine with 0.5 tog and nappy but I was still a bit nervous.

Thanks! I think I definitely prefer winter temps!

That sounds fine to me, our house hits 30C in summer as we have a chalet bungalow! Our baby has been absolutely fine dressed similarly

Twdfn123 · 16/06/2022 19:40

We're a chalet bungalow too! It gets so hot I feel your pain! Thank you 🥰

Try and not worry too much. As the midwife told me when I had mine in a heatwave - people in hot countries have babies.

Whatshouldbemyusername · 16/06/2022 19:48

@Twdfn123 I've put my 10month old DD in a nappy and short sleeve vest. Her room is showing as 28 degrees too.

CarburyChocolateRules · 16/06/2022 19:50

I would personally go with thin tshirt and thin shorts and no sleep bag
Baby will wake if cold

Burgerqueenbee · 16/06/2022 19:55

Nappy and vest here, although dd was born last June during the heatwave and I agonised every night what was best, I had nappy only for several nights (but since we were on 1.5-2hour wake ups I could check her temp regularly). You'll get the hang of it Smile

Blue2022 · 16/06/2022 20:04

My 5 month old is in nappy and vest. It's 27 degrees in our room

ChittyBang1987 · 16/06/2022 20:06

16 month old shorts and t-shirt only. Room is just 26. Felt her neck all fine.

Twdfn123 · 16/06/2022 20:06

Thanks 😊

I checked his chest which felt warm but no sweat or anything and he's sound asleep, so I'm not sure whether to wake him up to put a vest on. This is so hard 😵‍💫

Baby is a bodysuit (shirtsleeve no legs), and a baby blanket (one with holes)- no sleepy bag and no quilt for us

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/06/2022 20:07

OP if your baby is cold he will cry, nothing bad will happen. Better to be that way round than to over layer- but yes babies are born in hot countries so try and relax

Mommabear20 · 16/06/2022 20:08

11 month old and 2 year old are both in short sleeved vest and nappy, with a fan on lowest setting, pointing up (so not directly on them) once they're both asleep, I'll turn it off as it does cool down over night usually. The 2 year old has her blanket in her cot so can get it if she gets chilly too.

Sosocold · 16/06/2022 20:13

OP my baby is dressed same as yours, nappy and 0.5 tog sleeping bag. Room temp is 26.5c. If baby isn't sweaty I'd leave him to sleep x

ItsSnowJokes · 16/06/2022 20:17

I would just do a nappy at that temp. Baby will wake if cold. I doubt they will get cold.

Twdfn123 · 16/06/2022 20:19

I've changed him into a vest and nappy 😳 he's trying to crawl in the cot and waving his toosh in the air...

I hate hot weather 😶

sunflowerandivy · 16/06/2022 20:38

Mine is in a short sleeved vest & 0.2 tog bag as she likes to be covered 27 degree here

SunshineAndFizz · 16/06/2022 20:39

I used to think so much about temperature / what clothes to put my DC. I totally understand where you're coming from.

It does get easier x x

Lacedwithgrace · 16/06/2022 20:44

Depending on if he sleeps through the night or not, maybe set an alarm on your phone so you wake and pop in to check how warm he feels. It'll settle you and you'll know how much the room cools by that time.

miltonj · 16/06/2022 20:45

I live in a hot country. My 'baby' has been in just a nappy for the last few weeks. It's about 28 in room. She doesn't wake up. She is a toddler though so maybe a bit different but I remember doing the same this time last year too when she's was a similar age to yours.

I put a blanket at the end of her cot so she can cover up if she wants to, but 7 months is a bit early for that!
