What time does your 8 (nearly 9) yo go to bed?

Just as the title suggests really...

My ds is 8 just now, 9 in June.

He currently goes to bed at 7:30/45. His friend has just come round asking if he can go out and play but he's already in the shower.

My dp thinks I should let him stay up till 8:30.

My eldest (early riser) would have been in bed at same time. Youngest about 8.30 at same age... But sleeps in

Igotnewbarstools · 11/05/2021 19:00

He's usually up about 7 so not a particularly early riser but does normally fall asleep quite quickly.

8.30.

jb23newmum · 11/05/2021 19:03

Same age child - 9 goes to bed at 9 o’clock the same as her 12 year older sister but that’s only because the one doesn’t need her sleep and the other one does !

Choice4567 · 11/05/2021 19:04

Mine goes at 7:30 and wakes at 7. Even this doesn’t seem enough sleep for her and I think she’d fall asleep earlier if I sent her up!

LoveSleeping · 11/05/2021 19:04

My 9 year old has a quick shower at 8, then a story and in bed (and usually asleep) by 8.30. He usually wakes up between 6-7am.

Notavegan · 11/05/2021 19:04

My 4yo goes to bed then, my 7 yo a bit later.

Invisablewoman · 11/05/2021 19:05

Shower at 7.15 - 7.30, then reading/listening to a podcast and light off around 8.30. He's just turned 10.

4PawsGood · 11/05/2021 19:05

If he falls asleep quickly then I’d keep it as it is Smile

Quornflakegirl · 11/05/2021 19:05

Mine are 8, 9 in September and bedtime is 8:30. In bed reading at 8 and lights out at 8:30. I wake them at 7am on weekdays and they sleep until 8:30-9am on weekends so this tells me it a good bedtime for them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/05/2021 19:08

Dd was about 9pm but she's always bèn a night owl.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/05/2021 19:14

My 9 yo goes at 9, asleep by 915/30.

He has two older siblings, so is basically in line with his 11 yo DB. My eldest, just turned 14, goes to bed about 10. I aim for do the same.

They do a lot of sports. The older 2 sports activities are always from 7 - 8/815. He needs to tag along to drop / collect so inevitably affects bedtimes.

Also - it's a bit earlier in winter, later in summer.

Fixitup2 · 11/05/2021 19:22

8.30 for my 9 year old

Pythonesque · 11/05/2021 19:25

My eldest I can't remember accurately but was probably 7:30 at that age. My youngest, who was an early riser, would have been 7 when he was just 8, by the time he was nearly 9 (also a summer birthday) it was probably 7:30 mostly - mainly because he was a probationer chorister and by summer term was singing 3-4 services a week that didn't even finish till 7. But at that age, we collected him, drove straight home (10 mins) with a small snack in the car, bath and bed as quickly as possible. Because that was what he needed!

Weepingwillows12 · 11/05/2021 19:25

My 7 almost 8 year old goes to bed at 8 then is allowed to read until 9 sometimes 9:30 at the weekend. He wakes up naturally between 7 and 7:30.

SavingsQuestions · 11/05/2021 19:26

Up to bed/teeth etc 8, lights out 8.30

DarcyLewis · 11/05/2021 20:00

My 3 year old went to bed at 7.30pm, 7 and 10 year olds are still up. 7 year old will be going to get ready for bed soon though and 10 year old in bed by 9pm.

TheGriffle · 11/05/2021 20:05

Mines a bit younger than yours (was 8 in March) but she goes up between half 7 and 8, has a quick shower or a bath, half an hour or so of youtube and a story or two and is asleep for 9.

SpaceOp · 11/05/2021 20:12

Totally depends on child but if hes happily going to bed at 730 and sleeping until 7, i would not change things. At that age, ds was about 930, slept until 730. But suspect dd will continue with a 8:00-8:30 bedtime for years and could probably go earlier. She also sleeps until 730.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 11/05/2021 20:16

My 8 year old goes to bed at 8:30 but sometimes more like 9:30 if we've been chatting away. On weekdays, she's up at half 7. At weekends bedtime is usually between 9:30 and 10.

UltimateBlends · 11/05/2021 20:19

7 year old, anything from 8pm - 9pm with the lighter nights.
Naturally wakes up between 6am - 7:30am.
It all depends on how active his day has been!

Igotnewbarstools · 11/05/2021 20:21

He has mentioned it a few times, his friends definitely stay up later, but I came up to check him half an hour ago and he was fast asleep.
Maybe I'll start telling him to go in the shower at 7:45 and then he will go to bed after that. So 8/8:15 and he'll think it's a compromise!
Thanks all.

My daughter is 8 (9 in August).

Weekdays she goes to bed about 830 and is asleep by 9pm. Weekends we are more relaxed.

Longdistance · 11/05/2021 20:25

Dd9 in bed by 9.30pm. She wakes 7.30am.
We all go to bed late. No use going to bed earlier, dd11 goes to bed after 11pm as she is a nightmare. We pick our battles on that front.

Igotnewbarstools · 11/05/2021 20:26

I am generally more relaxed at weekends/nominate but even then 8:30 was normally the latest, maybe nine at a push.

I'll try the later time and see how he goes. He can get really emotional if he's tired so I might be back in a week saying it's back to 7:30 Grin
