Sleep training an 8mo

Hello hello, (which just autocorrected to “help help”, appropriately). I sleep trained our breastfed 8mo at 5.5mo using a gentle(ish) method of returning at intervals. He now goes to sleep by himself beautifully, but has started waking in the night- last night I was awake every 90mins/2hs, which is ridiculous at this age. I’m so tired that I’ve gotten lazy and have been feeding him to resettle and now we’re on a vicious cycle. Today is our last day on holiday, but from either tomorrow or Monday night, this needs to change! Any tips?

Yes, absolutely- I assume in the longer term he would decide it’s not worth crying just for a cuddle, and roll over and go back to sleep?!

I’ve tried not putting him immediately on the breast in the night but he’s obviously expecting it and gets more upset. Hence I wonder whether DH (with or without a bottle of water/milk) would have more success?

That's not usually how it works.

The idea is that you give as much physical comfort (in the cot) as is needed, but not any more than just enough to get him to sleep. Then over the weeks you reduce how much comfort is needed in a gradual way.
