moses baskets - they really are shite aren't they?

ds2's (mamas and papas so hardly a bargain) is wonky and the mattress sags

he's only 5 weeks old but i'm considering putting him in the travel cot (cotbed [in his nursery] won't fit through door [into our room] and can't be arsed taking it apart and reassembling it)

we have the cheapest one we could find (jl £30)and tis ok
travel cot good plan but will it not knacker your back getting him in & out from so low?

We had to use the family heirloom moses basket.

Made out of wicker, fgs.

Gently place your baby to sleep, and either catch your clothes on the wicker, scratch yourself on it, or end up with a bit rammed down a finger nail.

Worse than the bloody births!

that's a shame. I wouldn't have bought one myself - the open drawer method is a tried and tested one . However, dd bought a cheap one which saw her through 3 dcs without a hitch or break down!

DD lurves hers as she was more settled in a moses basket than the cot. It was a very good one till the bleeding rats chewed right thru it!!!!! (a hole is same size as a football!!)

Do they have to have a moses basket (panic as more purchases loom on the horizon). Can' t they sleep in their wonderful little cot??????

hannah - the reason why of the moses basket is cos the cotbed cover was too hard and the moses basket is all soft and comfy

I had a sturdy little 1920's wooden mini cot that fitted down the side of my bed perfectly, until he went into his own room inthe big cot. Glad I din't buy a moses basket DS was 11lb7oz and could only have worn it as a hat.

ah, but mrsbee we have a bassinet for the travle cot so back shall be fine (well as fine as it can be when bfing in a non-bf friendly chair during the night )

i concur that not all moses baskets are as shite as this one. ds1 was in one given to us by friends - john lewis i believe - and it was a lot better. but it was dropping to bits so had to be replaced

We have a crappy mammas and pappas moses basket which was only used to place baby in when newborn when visitors came.

I tried,

  1. two matresses
  2. cardboard on the bottom with mattresses on the top to stop it sagging.
  3. Pillow under two matresses
  4. Went out and bought a crib which was much better value and lasted 6 months (just about).

And what is the point of the hood anyway........ours doesn't even stay up FGS!

starting this thread has spurred me on to Do Something

have just called m&p and explained that their product is shite (or words to that effect)

am sending it back for them to assess

if they agree it is shite i plan on asking for a crib as a replacement

We bought a M&P crib - just to let you know we needed two matresses. I bought the cheapest and most expensive and put the most expensive on top.

The bottom of the crib is basically a piece of wood and the matress is about an inch thick and as much use as the mosses basket matress.

Two work very well though and can recommend.

Our crib was lovely - it wasn't a gliding one it was more like a small cot (I don't know whether or not they still do it).

Once it had two matresses it was fine.

Our Moses basket has been great for our two dcs. Not shite at all. I think it's Mothercare, woven in a special non-scratchy way.

They are such a waste of money. Dd went into the cot, when she wasn't in with us. Or the pram. I did buy a cheap second hand proper pram for her, and she slept a lot in that when small.

Spent an absolute fortune on a John Lewis one with pique lining and linen and a hood ffs! But he was my PFB.
Gave it away in disgust when he point blank refused to sleep in it.
I did spend many happy hours admiring it when I first bought it though

No - it didn't glide or rock.

About 18 months ago when we bought it M&P had this second 'exclusive' brochure and it was out of there (It cost about £99).

I will try and find one on the net.
