My 11 month old won't nap in the morning anymore.

My baby used to follow his routine really well, including nap times. For over two weeks now, he cries and refuses to nap. He nees it so that he won't be tired and cranky... not sure how to have him go back to napping and to sleep 14 hours a day as he used to. Can anyone help me?

Is he maybe trying to drop a nap?

Sweetiedarlingletmein · 30/07/2018 15:13

My dd dropped her morning nap at 11 months. Now sleeps 12-2 with lunchtime at 1130. Bedtime around 7. At that age though I think bedtime was 6-630. Maybe try to put him down after lunch?

dementedpixie · 30/07/2018 15:13

Both mine dropped to 1 nap around that age

larimirica · 30/07/2018 15:45

I hope not... he needs the sleep... =(

Mine dropped to one nap at 1.

Its normal!

Shutityoutart · 30/07/2018 15:49

Mine dropped the morning nap at that time so I moved his lunch earlier and then he napped 12-2 instead

INeedNewShoes · 30/07/2018 15:50

DD started dropping that nap at 11 months as well. By 1 she was firmly on one long nap a day after lunch. However, since walking she sometimes has two shorter naps as she is tired by 10am.

It always seems to be that the moment you know where you are with babies things change!

Frazzled2207 · 30/07/2018 16:46

Again it sounds like it's time for him to drop the nap.

Bloodylovepotatoes · 30/07/2018 16:49

Well he's probably just trying to drop a nap. Perfectly normal at that age. He'll likely just have one longer nap in the middle of the day now, and hence go to bed earlier. That's what my DS did!

ProperLavs · 30/07/2018 16:51

It's normal.

househunthappening · 30/07/2018 17:00

DS did the same around the 11 month mark. It's just a tricky transition dropping to 1 name and he'll stop getting cranky once he adapts to it.

DS has just turned 1 now and does 1 mega long nap a day and can go until bedtime now without turning into an absolute nightmare before bedtime!

imsoboredwithitall · 30/07/2018 17:07

My DS dropped the morning nap at that age.

2hr nap at midday, then 7-7

larimirica · 30/07/2018 17:26

Thank you all so much! I will consider changing from 2 to 1 nap per day. I only worry as both the pediatrician and a baby sleep consultant told me that this shouldn't happen until they are at least 18 months old Confused. Thank you very much!

What utter nonsense. I know some kids who don't nap at all after they turn a year old!! They're all different, there's no blanket catch all when it comes to sleep. Don't worry.

Tikiwoman · 30/07/2018 18:24

Gosh mine was having 0 naps a day at 18 month apart from the odd 10 minutes here and there

arbrighton · 31/07/2018 16:05

Utter crap. You can't say 'should' about babies.

DS has been better on one nap from 10 mo

I stopped napping at all at 10 mo

larimirica · 01/08/2018 15:20

So, now he won't eat because he is too tired =(

Tikiwoman · 01/08/2018 15:45

You're completely over thinking this
When does he wake up in the morning and go to bed ?
Does he sleep through

Bloodylovepotatoes · 01/08/2018 15:48

I hate to tell you this op but he's also at the age where babies/toddlers start to be very awkward with their food. There's loads going on developmentally at the moment and it makes them awkward sods.

BlueGenes · 01/08/2018 15:50

He will be tired OP as he gets used to the transition. If they won't sleep there really is no point in forcing them.

dingdongdino · 01/08/2018 15:52

One nap since 12 months here too

Sometimes before lunch sometimes lunch is at 3pm .. it happens

Pressuredrip · 01/08/2018 15:55

Mine all dropped their morning nap before 1, I've never heard of a baby still having two naps by 18 months.

larimirica · 01/08/2018 16:03

Tikiwoman, He usually sleeps 11 to 12 hours per night without waking up. Between 7 and 8 pm until 7 am.

Hi OP. No particular wisdom here except to say that my 11 month old is in random mode at the moment when it comes to naps. I have been putting her down when she looks tired because our previous routine has gone out of the window. If she doesn’t want to sleep, she just starts bouncing up and down in the cot so I have given up trying to make it happen. If she’s anything like child no. 1, she’ll adopt a new internal timetable in a week or two and we’ll try that. I’m with PPs that “shoudn’t“ is a bit of an odd concept for some stuff with babies, sleep included.

larimirica · 01/08/2018 17:22

And how do you make him sleep two hours straight?
