we went a while back and it was great. Skiing was fantastic and food amounts huge. I would go back if I had the chance and the money!!!

We went this year at Feb half term and immediately booked to go again next year.

We loved it - it is rather pampered skiing though

Where are you staying?

LilRedWobblyGut · 11/06/2007 11:19

Never skied there but have driven through plenty of times. You'll love the Rocky Mountains - beautiful! Don't drink alcohol on your flight, just loads of water. You are going to a high altitude and it may well make you feel a little sick/dizzy if you've had a drink on the flight.

Hi thanks for your quick responses. We have booked to stay at the Park Hyatt - think that is what it's called. We are having second thoughts because a) it is very expensive and b) we would have to share a room with our DS's for 11 nights. Soapbox where did you stay and would you recommend it. Also did you go to ski school. Oh and is eating out really expensive.
and anything else anyone might add which may help with our decision.

We stayed at the http://www.beavercreeklodge.net/ Beaver Creek Lodge which was good because they are all one bed suites, with a sofa bed in the living room as well as a small kitchen area which was good for fixing up small snacks and drinks etc. We put them to bed in the bedroom in the evening and then moved them to the sofa bed when we went to bed which meant we could sit up in the evening and watch tv and drink wine

The Hyatt is in a wonderful location though, right at the bottom of the slopes. The BCL is about a 5 min walk from the main lifts ski school etc.

We would love to do the Hyatt, but just don't want to all squish into one bedroom.

Don't miss out on the smores at the fire pit slope side at the Hyatt - or the drinks bar they open on fine days outside around 4pm.

Eating out wasn't too expensive at all we found. A meal for all four of us would be around $150 max with most coming in well short of that. Do get a sitter one evening so you can go to Beano's cabin - well worth it I can let you know the details of the babysitting co we used, which uses mainly ski school instructors who want to make a bit more money babysitting.

We used the main ski school, which is frighteningly expensive but very good. The children did very well in teh children's ski school which was staffed with people who really did seem to been child centric. They do so many fun activities with the children on themes slops which are so much fun! I would look to book a couple of private lessons as well as the group lessons if you can bare the $450 cost!

try again

Soapbox thanks so much for your invaluable help. Sounds wonderful. Not sure if we change the accommodation now as have paid the deposit but the lodge looks lovely and if we could have space from the boys - perfect. I am more inclined to go now and will speak to DH some more. He is really not keen due to the sharing with the boys. I think when I was booking it he was only half listening - which serves him right really. Information about babysitting would be great!
thanks again

I think you are right - don't change the accomodation!

Even having stayed at the BCL we were seriously considering the Hyatt. However the cost of two rooms vs one was just prohibitively expensive!

The location and hotel are fabulous. In fact I spent a very happy afternoon in the Hyatt spa having the best massage of my life!

The babysitting company we used was resort sitters

we love beaver creek - only been once but can't wait to go back - it was all so civilised compared to european scrums at lifts etc - one question - when did it close last year - will there still be snow at Easter? sorry for hijack!

KATGOD · 29/07/2007 21:14

BC is stunning so pretty they really know how to do a resort there, i am sure christmas would be amazing they go crazy with lights in trees etc, it really is lovely and would be my preferred choice every year were it not for cost and flight time. i am sure you will love it.
