Packing for a ski trip

CruCru · 08/02/2017 12:28

I am packing for a ski trip to France next week and wondered whether any of you keep a list of gear so you don't forget anything. If you do, please could you share it?

I have a three and a five year old. I've packed for them first.

Thanks!

Oh and thin but warm (think uniqlo or aldi) Gilets to add warmth without bulk. One per person should be enough.

CruCru · 14/02/2019 14:56

Ah super, I found the list again.

Amazing thread. Thank you. I love a good packing list.

highheelsandbobblehats · 19/02/2019 11:53

Just to add my own packing tip, which I apply to all trips. Get IKEA sandwich bags in all sizes. The biggest two sizes are perfect for clothes. Roll your clothes and put each person's in their own bags. T-shirts in one, trousers in another, swimming things/underwear in another and squeeze all the air out. Doing this, I got packing for a family of 4 for a week into two carry on cases. The separate bags also meant that when my son spilt water on himself at the airport, I could quickly grab him a dry one without unpacking everything.

I love the gang plug tip. Absolute genius

PestoSnowissimos · 19/02/2019 14:52

I would also add, keep your EHIC card on yr person at all times in case you have an accident

poshme · 14/09/2019 13:45

Shameless answering this thread to keep it in my threads I'm on!

highheelsandweathercocks · 14/12/2019 08:56

Bumping this thread back to the top!

Also, re thermals. Would sports underlayers work? My DC have several sets of the Sondico ones as they use them for rugby.

massistar · 14/12/2019 22:33

My son has always just used his footie/rugby Under Armour base layers so I'm sure they'll be fine.

Place mark

Hurrah, here’s the list thread I was looking for.

I think these lists are way over the top!

All I pack is (for each member of our family of four)

3 sets thermals top/bottoms
6 socks
Neck buff and goggles
1-2 fleece - only wear if Baltic
Ski Jacket and pants

None of these 4-5 layers! We ski in a baselayer and jacket - even the kids and often still too hot 😂 this is Feb half term

TeetotalKoala · 14/02/2020 16:00

We're here now. 4 of us came out, each with a cabin bag each. The DC have child sized ones too, so extra small.

I packed (each)
1 x salopettes
2 x ski socks
5 x underwear
2 x base layer
1 x helmet
1 x goggles
2 x pjs (just me and DC)
1 x fleece
Swimwear (we have a pool here)
1 x buff (DH/me)
1 x jacket (worn on the flight)
1 x hat
1 x ear warmer (me)
1 x ski mask (DC)

That's what we've used

I've also packed
2 x spare normal socks
3 x tops in case we went out for dinner

We haven't worn any of the tops or socks. DS1 went down to no bottom base layer on day 3 and has just worn his salopettes. No-one wore a fleece or mid-layer after day 1. It was only -4 at the coldest, and we warmed up fast!

For essentials that we used I also packed
Paracetamol/ibuprofen/Calpol
4 gang plug (thank you to a PP for that too)
Toiletries
Hand wash for clothes

Next year I won't bother with the additional tops or socks, but I will pack more underwear as it's nicer to have fresh than handwashed.

Using this as a checklist, we go for the first time on Saturday! Thanks!

CruCru · 20/02/2020 18:57

Hope you have a great time!

Thank you!

lampygirl · 21/02/2020 15:45

Just wait til you get to your own skis/boots/poles/helmets too, adds a whole new luggage complication!!

@ethelredonagoodday we go Saturday too, where are you going? We are off to Austria on a cheeky second trip this year after getting a good deal with Crystal but as avid DIYers, the luggage restrictions, coach trips and irritating middle man makes me realise why we do it all ourselves!

CallmeAngelina · 23/02/2020 15:15

When my kids were young, I found it invaluable to put everyone's own "bits" into separate carrier bags within the suitcase. So, socks/gloves/neck gaiter/ thermals etc.. so that when we needed a speedy start on the first morning to get skis etc before ski-school, it was all there in one place.

ethelredonagoodday · 05/03/2020 19:26

We went to Chazelet near Le Meije. Was fantastic thanks had a great first experience!

CruCru · 24/11/2020 13:26

Okay, at present our ski holiday has been cancelled. However, my husband is trying to rebook so I thought I might resurrect this old thread. I need to dig out all the kids' ski gear and work out whether my son needs new ski trousers.

OP posts:
Ginogineli · 24/11/2020 18:11

Have you seen the news today as lots of Europe ministers have banned skiing in their countries so wouldn’t book yet

I’m expecting mine in Feb to be cancelled anyway

Inghams have cancelled all french chalet holidays for entire season already

CruCru · 24/11/2020 18:52

I just need to believe that skiing will happen at some point this season. Even if it is only in mid April.

OP posts:
Ginogineli · 24/11/2020 19:07

I’m same I’m desperate! Only I’m only off second week of Easter which take me to 10 April which is so late

I went end March and it was slushy so don’t know what to do

Have you asked that late before?

Ginogineli · 24/11/2020 19:07

Skied

CruCru · 24/11/2020 19:08

No I haven't so we'd have to go to a high resort.

OP posts:
texarkana · 25/11/2020 17:29

Had a friend regularly skied well into mid April in Obergurgl. It wouldn’t be my choice but then we’ll be lucky to get anything in this year so can’t be that choosy I guess!
