Hello, hello.

Are you planning anything special/clever/aaah-inspiring for Father's Day (June 20th)?

Have you got any crucial Father's Day dos and don'ts to pass on to the rest of us?

Or are you a Father who can furnish some dos and don'ts from t'other side of the annual ah-yet-another-golf-mug delights?

Please do tell all!

Let him have a massive fuck-off lie-in. Don't try and make him "do" stuff.

Just realised my DP will be visiting a close friend that weekend to make/listen to squonky music. That's about the best thing I could have offered him anyway. Job done!

elliemental · 26/05/2010 11:42

I'm arranging a 'playdate' for him and his wee friends - at the pub

UnquietDad · 26/05/2010 11:56

Proper breakfast is good. When he feels like it.

Actually the best Father's Day present I had from DS and DD was a comic strip/collage thing which they had spent months putting together in a folder with DW's help.

A lie in
Breakfast in bed
Lunch at a restaurant of his choice
Dinner of his choice with a nice cold beer

Fill a photoframe (one of those with various holes in to fill) with photo's just of dh/dp with the kids.

Photobox (and no doubt loads of other sites) print notebooks with pictures of your choice on the front and back.

My don't is - don't book yourself on a girls netball weekend in Spain on fathers day weekend - it doesn't go down very well!

JaxTellersOldLady · 26/05/2010 17:25

I make him his fave meal, renew his subscription to whatever Magazine he is into at the moment and let him have slob around if he wants to.

My Father gets a nice malt whiskey and that keeps him happy.

trice · 26/05/2010 17:41

Ignore it as the made up marketing ploy it is.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2010 18:10

DH might get a steak if he's a good boy. DF doesn't do Father's Day! But may make the monsters make him a card.

BaDaBing · 26/05/2010 18:45

It's dp's stag night on the saturday before fathers day, so his treat will be paracetemol and water in bed followed by a fry up when he surfaces. Can't say fairer than that.

Option of ds to visit that weekend, or not as his choice, done discretely behind ds' back. Nice card. As ex's we have a small budget (~£5). i got a lovely plant from ds with card for mothers'd day. ex will probably get a voucher for i-tunes. I love gardening, he loves music. SImples.

Voucher for somthing they can chose to spend on the specific thing they want is good for those with expensive hobbies (golf, fishing, cycling....) One year a friend got her father one of those experiences things that you can get in smiths and other places. He loved it.

CakeandFineWine · 26/05/2010 20:23

I meticulously planned by DD's birth for that week
So my DH has the joy of assisting with a childs birthday party of 20 odd hyper 4 year olds!!

supergreenuk · 26/05/2010 20:33

We are taking DH to a lovely petting zoo and they are doing steak and ale that day in the restaurant.

For our Dads we are going to do compilation of all the videos we have taken of DD so far (6 months) and putting them on a CD for them. Maybe some chocs too.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2010 20:45

supergreen - he does realise it's not that sort of petting doesn't he?

supergreenuk · 26/05/2010 22:07

How rude. he he.

SambuccaKelly · 27/05/2010 10:39

My DH will be in SA for the football...but at least I get out of having to faff around being wifely.

SpringHeeledJack · 27/05/2010 14:27

He gets a card made by the dcs (usually at toddlers so I don't have to mess around with glue and paint which they will spend 5 seconds on and take me 3 hours to clean up) and if he's lucky a bag of liquorice allsorts. For last Mothering Sunday Dh gave me the card that Ds had made at toddlers (which I take him to so I had helped to make the bloody thing) and that was it

strongblackcoffee · 27/05/2010 21:06

He will quite possibly be getting a strip of pansies from Focus, similar to the one I received for my mother's day present

Booboobedoo · 28/05/2010 10:02

I like to get him something he can Do with DS (3).

Last year it was the 'My Dad' board book by Anthony Browne for them to read together.

This year he is being particularly lovely, so am considering splurging on a remote-controlled boat for them to scare the ducks with.

Oh, and DS will make a card.

Tenalady · 28/05/2010 12:57

When is Fathering Sunday

Tenalady · 28/05/2010 12:59

Just seen the date on the first post lol! typical.

Mercedes519 · 28/05/2010 14:54

On the first father's day (novelty has worn off now) I got a photo book printed of pics of DS and Daddy with captions. He quite liked that.

Have just checked the date in a panic that its next week but its AGES away
