Thanks DEM. The problem you're having is that the web page itself is loading, but the style sheet (sorry - dunno if you're of a technical bent or not; if not, the style sheet is the bit that tells your browser how all the text is meant to look) isn't. Hence you're not getting the right layout, the right fonts etc. It implies a flakey connection. There is definitely nothing wrong at the server end. And that particular problem is unrelated to ads. Sorry not to have any more useful info for you.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 17/05/2010 23:35

Seems worst for me when I am on a thread and either press f5 to refresh, or click on 'next' page.

Spell your name right!

Also if I click 'active' at the top of the screen, but not so much if I click active under discussions of the day.

YetMoreTech · 17/05/2010 23:35

KickArseQueen, I believe that (i.e. difference depending how you logged in) is just coincidence I'm afraid.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/05/2010 23:39

hellair matey

you awright?

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/05/2010 23:39

That makes sense. but why does this problem seem worse at high flow periods? And most importantly can you fix it. please!

Oh and the screen shots were what i could get when it actually loaded yesterday. It was mostly mn server timing out.

Hnag on a mo. The style sheet code should be embedded into the html code via referenecing. so is the style sheet linkaging to the web page failing to occur, or is the transfer of info (style sheet and page) not happening concurrently so the linakge is not being made and how can i check? will it show if i go routely out the source code for the page or have you protected that?

And why does it only affect mn site when everything else is working properally when it happens?

DEM, next time you get a timeout please make a note of the precise time and email a screenshot to tech at mumsnet.

Howdy boys!

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/05/2010 23:47

Just next time? Yep will do. thank you.

DEM - what normally happens is your browser requests the page, parses the code therein, sees that it links to a style sheet and then it requests said style sheet. They cannot happen truly concurrently, because your browser wouldn't know it needs the style sheet until after its downloaded the page. There is a mechanism within your browser which will try to reuse the existing connection to do the subsequent downloads.

For any one of a number of reasons, including the server being too busy, the connection between your browser and the server being flakey, etc. etc. it can sometimes occur that the first of these downloads (i.e. the page itself) goes okay, but the second (the download of the style sheet) does not.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 17/05/2010 23:56

Ooh get you DEM, being all techy and clever!

KickArseQueen · 17/05/2010 23:58

Bitter! But I just love saying ARSE!

Ok tech good luck

KickArseQueen · 18/05/2010 00:11

"Waiting for ad emea" mean anything to you???

I just logged off and shut down and then came back, the screen whited out......

VengefulKitty · 18/05/2010 08:07

I gave up in the end last night.

Everything that DEM experienced, I was getting last night. 4/5 times the page would time out and I would get a page saying the server at www.mumsnet.com was not responding. 1/5 times I got a plain style page loading.

Very frustrating, especially when all other sites were working perfectly well.

I ended up reading lamebook!

BrokenDoll · 18/05/2010 10:42

I am getting the same thing as DEM - s l o w load (if i don't get time out message) and then the page looks all wonky.

I have no ads (ad blocker) and no other webpage does it so the problem is not with my connection or with firefox.

SixtyFootDoll · 18/05/2010 13:11

I have Gooogle chrome and the same was happening to me, only on MN not other sites.

FuckingPants · 18/05/2010 19:20

It is starting to slow right down again

grrrr

HelenMumsnet · 18/05/2010 20:46

Oh no - is it?

Is it for anyone else?

Valpollicella · 18/05/2010 21:04

Seems ok atm Helen, although I don't want to jinx things... I don't think I could cope with a third evening of disrupted MNing

AnyFucker · 18/05/2010 21:09

was bad around 7pm...seems to be ok again now

I gave my laptop a stern talking-to though...perhaps it helped

HelenMumsnet · 18/05/2010 21:57

Oh good

Stern talkings-tos happen a lot chez moi...

bellavita · 20/05/2010 20:33

I couldn't get it to load for ages and ages tonight. DH even changed my wireless connection but to no avail..
