A leetle bit concerned about privacy with these status thingummies...

MNHQ- after some pootling about, I seem to have worked out that your status is applied retrospectively to recent name-changes.

Tell me, where does that leave us when we post on bumsex on sensitive topics with a name-change?

If somebody hovers over the namechange days later and sees something fabulously witty that just happens to match what BitOfFun has on her status today, the whole privacy thing is going to fall apart, isn't it?

Just delete your status altogether. That's what I did.

And I didn't post on any rude threads by the way

MaggieMirabelle · 20/02/2010 18:36

oh! yes i see it is 3 days, 4 hours and 20 seconds since knickknack did a random thing. very funny.

I know, Shiney! I'm actually quite grateful to Mal now for her habit of over-sharing: it's made me far more reticent about posting anything in gory detail now I know how stomach-churning it can be for other people to read, namechange or not

PS (nonchalantly) - where is the sex thread, btw?

(Just in the interests of research, you understand...)

Yes- well, I've posted this, and reported it so it hits the big red button policedesk too. No word as yet from our sponsors...

It was all a ploy by MamaG to develop a spreadsheet better than Shiney's and Reality's

EssenceOfJack · 20/02/2010 19:18

Ahem, I actually pointed this out last night

If at any point you change your status then it changes your previous namechange.

And stop searching the fecking sex secret thread you bastards....

BitOfFun · 20/02/2010 19:24

Did you? Hehehe, well, I've taken the credit now

Have been testing, as soon as you put another up it appears on your 'changed' name.

So no status if you want to say somethign serious, ever!

Bugger, I'm going to need an iron and brown paper, aren't I? Or put my head in the freezer or summat...

Hmm, erm, I dunno
To paraphrase Baby's Dad in Dirty Dancing:
When I dunno, I say I dunno
Lemme see if I can find out. Thanks for pointing that out.

BitOfFun · 22/02/2010 12:43

Come on then MNHQ- somebody techy must be around by now, surely?

OP posts:
KentuckyFriedPenguin · 22/02/2010 12:49

whn you name change you need to change status too- which is the box above (or was it below) the namechange box)

BitOfFun · 22/02/2010 13:19

Is that advice. Kentucky, or another snag?

Because if it's advice, it still doesn't help with the privacy- any old names still show up what your status is currently saying.

I might have misunderstood you though.

OP posts:
KentuckyFriedPenguin · 22/02/2010 13:31

It depends which way you look at it BOF!

BitOfFun · 24/02/2010 02:56

bump

OP posts:
JustineMumsnet · 24/02/2010 06:59

BitOfFun you're quite right about this, we needed to change the way it works. Not being technical am not sure quite how complicated the change is, so in the meantime KentuckyFriedPenguin's solution sounds like a good stopgap. We will let you know soonest when a real fix is likely to come.

Many thanks for pointing it out.

EssenceOfJack · 24/02/2010 16:25

Ah, been ignored by MNHQ now.

Bet you wouldn't ignore me if I was still Jack Bauer would you? Huh?
