What's this about certain Mners being invited to the tenth anniversary party?

Cliquey or what?

How were people chosen? I hope everyone's name was put into a hat and a certain number chosen at random.

I suspect not.

I don't really care tbh.

There are too many MNetters to invite all of us. Presumably those MNetters who contribute in some way, eg. Aitch, MP... will have received invites for that reason, as will journalists.

Yes, it would have been nice to invite everyone, but I guess they would have had to rent the Millenium Dome.

bibbitybobbityhat · 14/02/2010 16:25

I see the 850,000 members myth still abounds.

I think it's a bit rude to get an invite like that and then moan about it (Ms Oakshott). Journalist or not. I mean I know mumsnet courts press interest so some will say they get what they deserve but I think it's a bit rude of her.

oh gutter, tbh, it's not like they could invite everyone is it

although we may be contributors, justine and co are the ones who have done all the hard work and deserve a bit of a shindig. And haikus have been around on mumsnet for probably as long as mumsnet has been around , I imagine that's why they chose them!

Guttersnipe · 14/02/2010 16:27

bibbity, how do you know 850,000 is a myth? What do you reckon is the real number?

OP posts:
piratecat · 14/02/2010 16:27

43 i think!!

EccentricaGallumbits · 14/02/2010 16:27

shall we gatecrash? all 850,000 of us? that would be funny.

Slartybartfast · 14/02/2010 16:28

i refuse to join any club party that would have me as a member

bibbitybobbityhat · 14/02/2010 16:29

The real number is over 260,000 Guttersnipe but other than that I don't know.
Let me have a search - I'll get back to you.

Guttersnipe · 14/02/2010 16:30

Actually 10 does sound really miserly. Is that 10, one for each year of MN's existence? You would think Justine et al could push the boat out to 100.

And let those chosen be by lot, not by favouritism.

MmeLindt · 14/02/2010 16:33

Could you imagine the carnage if we were to choose our representatives to go to the the MN birthday party?

There would be quiches exploding all over the place.

muggglewump · 14/02/2010 16:34

guttersnipe, yes, I've always had three g's. There is a Mugglewump with just the two, but I've only seen her post once, and I thought it was me posting drunkenly when I saw it

She was asking for advice on a holiday for herself, DH and two DC. I really thought I'd randomly made that up until I noticed the two g's.

How is a competition cliquey?

pagwatch · 14/02/2010 16:37

I would like to see more regular mumsenetters added to the list. They are after all the life blood of MN , surely.
And I say that knowing that I would almost certainly be a) not selected and b) not able to go.

muggglewump · 14/02/2010 16:40

I don't think I'm regular enough, plus MNHQ would be worried that I'd bring the bag so almost certain not to invite me.
Oh, and I also couldn't go either, but I could be all Diva like and pretend to have something more important to do that evening.

bibbitybobbityhat · 14/02/2010 16:47

Guttersnipe: I'm not very good at using the search facility but the reason I know Mumsnet does not have 850,000 users is ecause MNHQ confirmed it to me and threadworm (under her then name) some time in the last three months of last year, when we were questioning that figure as it was being used in the little flurry of press coverage and the Radio 4 prog (think it was Woman's Hour) we had then. Probably November or December I should think.

Late last summer I was curious as to how many members there were so I asked a few newbies to look up their registration number and most of them were around the 260,000 mark. So registered users had gone from 0 to 260,000 in the first 9 and a half years of the site and I very much doubt it went up another 600,000 in the following few months.

But I can't find that thread now!

Methusalah · 14/02/2010 16:49

This is a changed MN Soupy, don't forget HUN these days people on here will take offence at anything.

SoupDragon · 14/02/2010 16:53

good lord - surely there won't be Huns there?!
