The ´HOW TO´guide to Mumsnet

Papillon · 11/07/2005 11:43

I think it is not more moderators that we require wink] but instead a group of stalwart MN oldtimers who can guide the newbies, the undoctrinated entrants into the world of MN Speak, MN Do and MN Be.

Now I am not claiming to be an oldtimer - 1 year is probably still fledgling so I will be boring and show everybody a method on ´HOW TO´do links

  1. In the box on the lower right hand side of your screen are instructions for Links and emoticons Go there.

  2. Using your mouse highlight the text \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk \ this}

  3. Once highlighted Copy this text and paste it into the ´Add a Message´ box

Take the website address that you wish to add and insert in plae of \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk \ this} (area to replace highlighted in bold)

This is how I do it. My keyboard does not have { or \ so I find cut and paste easier. I had to add some gaps so that it would not just show as a link... make sure you have no spaces between letters and symbols.

You can of course just type \link{ then add the website address and } to finish!

hm - Actually lets hear it here - phonetic notation preferred

Norash · 13/07/2005 23:33

Jahn, who's talking to you? Did I ask you? Butt out.

hunkermunker · 13/07/2005 23:33

Norahs - say what you see, surely.

hunkermunker · 13/07/2005 23:33

M and N - you're a charming couple.

norash, seeing as this is a public thread i think it's acceptable for anyone to post, as long as they are not being rude/offensive/trolling/flaming

Norash · 13/07/2005 23:36

Hunker I thought someone just pointed out that this was meant to be light hearted?

hunkermunker · 13/07/2005 23:37

M and N are a double act. Comedy isn't their forte; belligerence might be.

micha26 · 13/07/2005 23:37

M and N on MN, what a coincidence

Norash · 13/07/2005 23:37

Hey! Hey! Who's being rude?

hunkermunker · 13/07/2005 23:38

Ah - sorry, misunderstood the rules. You're allowed to be rude as all f*ck, but anyone else picks you up on it and it's "lighthearted". I getcha!

lou33 · 13/07/2005 23:38

just replying to your message to janh

Norash · 13/07/2005 23:38

How was I rude then?

micha26 · 13/07/2005 23:39

hm - you could have at least added a smiley. I'm really offended now

hunkermunker · 13/07/2005 23:39

My mistake Sharon:

Jahn, who's talking to you? Did I ask you? Butt out.

Not rude at all.

Norash · 13/07/2005 23:41

And her message was friendly/lighthearted how?

hunkermunker · 13/07/2005 23:42

OK, saying duh to me, then:
