Dear all,

We're looking for a couple more moderators. The current team do an amazing job and of course to some extent you are all moderators - plenty of you email us if you feel something is getting out of hand and for that we're very grateful - but we feel that given how busy the site now is, we need a few more official folks, with access to our direct contact details, watching over it.

Being a moderator requires a diplomacy and restraint, so if those aren't your strong points please do keep posting on Talk, but don't apply to be a moderator . Of course being around a lot also helps.

Moderators essentially have two roles. The first is to help out if queries (including media requests please) aren't answered by bumping and cajoling responses. The second is to attempt to (!) calm inflammatory situations, intervene where misunderstandings occur and keep mumsnet HQ informed (via email and tel if necessary) of anything that might warrant intervention.

It's a purely voluntary post (ie unpaid sadly) but you do get your pic on the mods page so it's not without glamour. If anyone would like to volunteer, please email [email protected].

Many thanks

The mumsnet team

A really dim question but do you need sun tan lotion on a huge tatoo like that?????

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:19

saucy....

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:21

he will have to keeo it out of the sun for a few weeks initially to stop fading, then after the scabbing hasgone you treat it like normal skin, so yes he would put sun cream on if it was hot

hunkermunker · 09/07/2005 19:38

Why are you shocked at me, LGJ?

MrsGordonRamsay · 09/07/2005 19:39

Don't mind me I just hate the bllody things

Cam · 09/07/2005 19:40

lou, you've taken this thread right off subject, I guess that's an example of what a good moderator can do

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:42

hehe, sneaky eh?

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:43

mgr, i have 2 of those bloody things

hunkermunker · 09/07/2005 19:43

LGJ, do you really think I have a tattoo on my backside of the MN logo?

To Lou - of course I have!

RTKangaMummy · 09/07/2005 19:46

btw does indellable pen count cos I don't want a tattoo

I have some of suzy's brownies on offer here or I could do for the mntowers anyway

hunkermunker · 09/07/2005 19:47

Blimey, wouldn't like to be MN Towers making this decision. Lots of but [brave] faces when the new mods are announced

MrsGordonRamsay · 09/07/2005 19:47

Lou

I know you do, I just hate them, sorry

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:50

it's ok, different strokes etc

RTKangaMummy · 09/07/2005 19:50

Does it count how many hours you are here per day???

I am on at 9am until about 1 or 2 am

so that is 16 hours per day

Now that is dedication

Deffo Brill

wheresmyfroggy · 09/07/2005 19:51

may the best man win....

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:55

seriously, i do think a bloke onboard would be good, balance things out a bit

but only if you promise to wear one of those outfits

HappyHuggy · 09/07/2005 19:55

I think you'd all be fab!!!!!

hunkermunker · 09/07/2005 19:56

Does anyone know the criteria for being a mod?

Special calming influence skills?

No history of whimsical namechanges?

Current mods, what was the process for being selected, oh wise ones?

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:56

test of your mettle coming up with a new circumcision thread starting, see how calm you can keep it

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:57

they advertised and i replied

hunkermunker · 09/07/2005 19:57

Thought I was doing a sterling job thus far on the willy-snipping thread, Lou

lou33 · 09/07/2005 19:59

ah but all is quiet on the western front atm, let's see how you do when teh going gets hot

hunkermunker · 09/07/2005 20:16

Can we make it hot, then calm it down, or am I missing the point?

RTKangaMummy · 09/07/2005 20:30

But what if Haven has a real problem with her little boy

And she has been told he should have it done

If everyone argues about it she may worry even more that she is making the wrong choice

Shouldn't we try to help her rather than argue?
