Can we have to option to ignore certain posters?

I belong to another forum where there is an option to filter out posts by particular posters. I'd LOVE it if there was that option here because whilst I find most posts interesting and/amusing, there are a very small handful of posters whose posts consistently annoy or offend me. I usually just skim over what they have to say and try and ignore, but sometimes I find myself unnecessarily irritated, and causes me to stop following the thread.

Also, this option might also tone down some of the vitriol on some controversial threads.

Just an idea, but would be welcome.

would I be one of them?

Why ignore when you can mock mercilously?

LauraIngallsWilder · 28/11/2009 22:18

Why not just ignore the people that annoy you though sofa - no need for a MN facility to help you do that, just ignore

I frequently feel irratated by other posters on MN but rarely enough that I can be bothered to comment.

Mostly I rarely remember who has annoyed me in the past anyway

Life is too short

I would ignore whomovedmychocolate but she might move my chocolate

I'm on a few people's Shit List, but I find that oddly gratifying, 2Shoes

Oooooh are you Bof? How intriguing.

Op - there's a couple of posters that I ignore. I just don't read what they write. I always get the gist from the comments that come afterwards! Its easy to just let your eyes slide past, honest.

..and if the other forum is so good...

Morosky · 28/11/2009 22:46

There was a poster on here who joined solely to bully me and spent some time launching quite horrific personal attacks on me while others posted to support her or just gawp.

I would have liked to have filtered her out tbh. But people who just irritate me - that is just life.

2shoes · 28/11/2009 22:46

southeastastra · 28/11/2009 22:54

i read every single comment. it's rude not to.

tbh i prefer the frank and possibly rude posters. makes for a more interesting site.

if you don't agree, don't ignore argue the toss!

I've been personallyattacked on here (well it was at dh actually) and it was good for the sould being able to argue and put them right (though MN removed them shapish)- plenty joined in to back him as well.

Having the facillity to respond to the abd stuff is important; it allows you to change peoplesminds or just challenge them.

Like- the person who attacked Dh saw he (back then) had depression and posted a swearintg post about he was lazy, faking, workshy etc....

he actually had 2 jobs at the time...

So it can be great to stand up and say sorry you are wrong and this is why.

make some real changes.otherwise, what you get is lots of people talking to themselves (or peoplelike them), learning nothing and just reaffirming their own biases.

I've seen other forums that allow you to hide certain posters - however, it often doesn't seem to work that well because:
(a) other people on the thread quote them, leaving you thinking 'eh, where was that, didn't see that post'
(b) if the poster name changes, then they reappear.
Money saving expert allows it & one particular poster was winding many people up. They kept changing their name a little so you had to constantly block them. It was more annoying than just skimming past them when you saw their latest incarnation IMO.
