And do you know what

It IS perfect every time

How is that?

You can't overcook it, it doesn't stick and you can cook it in advanced and it is STILL perfect

Is it like witchcraft

Please explain how they achieve this

VinegarTits · 26/11/2009 10:43

So if i put the microwave on 20 mins by mistake, instead of 2 mins, it will still come out perfect?

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 10:48

OK now I'm confused

don't you just bung it in a pan with water?

What does a microwave have to do with it?

And what kind of elevensies is PLAIN RICE, woman?

OP posts:
LowLevelWhingeing · 26/11/2009 10:50

eeeeew uncle ben's rice is MINGING! It has a weird chemically non-rice taste. I'm guessing they've done a deal with the devil where they traded taste for perfect-every-time-ness.

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 10:52

I LIKE that taste

It is comforting nursery food

Also it's really handy if your husband is late home because it doesn't turn into a slimey white blob in the pan

OP posts:
twoisplenty · 26/11/2009 10:52

Go and read the ingredients on the packet, and report back please - I am curious. What do they do to rice to make it so perfect?

Can you really microwave rice

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 10:56

it is just RICE, but it's somehow par-boiled and then dried out again

also it's witchcraft

I don't know how the par-boiling means that it is so damned perfect every time

we need someone who doesn't have a humanities degree to explain

OP posts:
morningpaper · 26/11/2009 10:57

they serve it at my local hospital, where I occasionally go for lunch

Large massive pans of non-sticky rice with big ladles of curry

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OP posts:
Deadworm · 26/11/2009 10:58

Is it because the par-boiling removes lots of the starch?

Do Uncle Ben's rice grains cost twenty times as much as generic rice?

Isn't it worth a bit of stickiness to avoid that awful name and his gurning face?

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 26/11/2009 11:02

This is terrible.

I admired you Morningpaper, but now...

Do you like tinned macaroni cheese too? Are you in fact a student? Do you live in bedsit with 7 friends? It's the only excuse for liking that rice tbh.

DanDruff · 26/11/2009 11:02

i dont see WHY WHY WHY people cant cook rice

boil water
pour on rice
leave alone
sieve

eat

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:03

tinned macaronia cheese is clearly wrong, unless you enjoy eating sick

which I do not

maybe you are right about the starch

Dandruff: You are wrong, it's quite hard to cook rice properly. Someone always needs a poo around Minute 7 and then your rice turns to shit

OP posts:
thedollshouse · 26/11/2009 11:04

I only eat microwave rice.

Given up on boiling the stuff. I can't do it, it just sticks to the pan and has burnt bits in.

DanDruff · 26/11/2009 11:05

you POUR ONBOILING WATER

adn leave i till it smells ricey

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:05

errr sorry I don't mean to imply that I get actual human faeces in my rice

I mean that the rice gets overcooked and is NARSTY

OP posts:
DanDruff · 26/11/2009 11:05

dollshouse - not enough water or too small pan

ClaireDeLoon · 26/11/2009 11:06

I thought this was going to be a thread about how Uncle Ben's rice was deeply unethical and all advertising should be removed.

thedollshouse · 26/11/2009 11:06

Some people think they can cook it but it tastes hard and grainy.

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 26/11/2009 11:06

Sieving nice rice is nearly as bad as Uncle Ben's.

DanDruff · 26/11/2009 11:07

me too
the boys rate the stuffed crust frozen pizzas and are great as oyu dont even have to use a tin or anything - they come in an oven proof device

i dont liek em

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:07

I CAn cook rice properly but I have to stand there counting down to 8 minutes nad 20 seconds before draining in five seconds and serving within 20 seconds and if anyone needs toileting at the crucial moments then everything goes wrong

OP posts:
thedollshouse · 26/11/2009 11:07

How big should the pan be?

VinegarTits · 26/11/2009 11:07

Cooking rice is easy just follow the instructions on the packet

FabIsVeryLucky · 26/11/2009 11:10

I always use the 2 minutes in the microwave rice but found some risotto rice in the cupboard this morning so will use that next week.
