And do you know what

It IS perfect every time

How is that?

You can't overcook it, it doesn't stick and you can cook it in advanced and it is STILL perfect

Is it like witchcraft

Please explain how they achieve this

biggish.
for s two - i use my medium one

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 26/11/2009 11:11

widest you have thedollshouse, with a good fitting lid.

I stick rice on till it boils, turn off the heat and come back in 20 mins and its lovely.

There are no seconds (or poos) involved.

DanDruff · 26/11/2009 11:12

NO LID NO LID

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:13

NO LID? I don't have any sort of extractor fan so a lid is essential

RISOTTO RICE requires no childcare duties to be performed for at least the 19 minutes that you need to stand there stirring, drinking the rest of the bottle of white wine that you needed to start your risotto off

DanDruff · 26/11/2009 11:14

oh so agree re risotto. god i love it - have two faves butternut squash and chicken and asparagus.

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 26/11/2009 11:15

No lid is madness.

What kind of crazy rice do you make?

Poledra · 26/11/2009 11:15

Oh, I love risotto, and once it's started, you can cook it while holding a 17-mo on your hip, no bother. Pumpkin and sage, mmmmm!

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:15

I love risotto too much you can't turn your back or it all mutates

OP posts:
Poledra · 26/11/2009 11:16

Dan Druff, recipe for chicken and asparagus please!!

Slubberdegullion · 26/11/2009 11:16

I will support any endevour, microwave rice or otherwise that ousts the waving child of hatefulness from my active convos.

I do mine in the microwave in the microwave rice cooker. Works alright and actually tastes better if there is a poo emergency and you have to leave it in there for 10 mins or so after it has gone beep.

notwavingjustironing · 26/11/2009 11:16

Auntie Notwaving rice

Real rice. Pyrex dish, pour on boiling water, stick on high for 11 mins. Perfect every time.

GinSlinger · 26/11/2009 11:17

you do twice the amount of water to rice - bring to boil, turn hob to lowest setting and then leave until all water is absorbed and then fluff with fork. perfect rice every time. You can also do this in the oven if you bring it to boil in saucepan first then decant into dish and cover with foil - it takes a bit longer in the oven.

use measuring jug -60 mls rice 120 mls water does a couple of portions,

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:17

I don't get the microwaving rice

It feels unethical

OP posts:
ChloeHandbag · 26/11/2009 11:17

We use Delia's method and it works everytime
be warned the waving girl is here too

Slubberdegullion · 26/11/2009 11:20

I measure my water by pouring enough in until (with finger resting on top of rice) it reaches my distal interphalangeal joint

NotQuiteCockney · 26/11/2009 11:24

Lid. No sieve.

If you are cooking rice with no lid, and you need a sieve at the end, you are in fact cooking pasta.

pofacedandproud · 26/11/2009 11:27

you measure the water ?

Surely Uncle Ben is owned by Nestle? No? Why haven't they bought it yet?

Risotto is one of the few things I can actually make. It does require locking the children in the understairs cupboard though.

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:29

Uncle Ben's is owned by Mars, not Nestle

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 26/11/2009 11:31

yes of course you measure the water

You are part boiling it and part steaming it, the steaming bit is essential for it to go all fluffy and not turn into a lumpen glutinaginous clod (ime)

and you only measure it with your finger, there's no fart arsing about with measuring devices here. oh no

FabIsVeryLucky · 26/11/2009 11:32

MP - why is it unethical?

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:37

I don't know, it just seems wrong

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 26/11/2009 11:43

mp, you need to live a little, expand your life experiences, live on the rice edge.... g'wan microwave it, feel the excitement.

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:45

I don't own a microwave, they always strike me as some sort of LARGE ORNAMENT and I hate clutter

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 26/11/2009 11:49

well you could have told me you didn't have one before I did the hard sell

Porridge much easier in them also imo

morningpaper · 26/11/2009 11:50

But breakfast wouldn't be breakfast without swearing over the glued-on porridge in the saucepan
