I can understand why wanting to post so the whole world can't see would be tempting, but can't see how access criteria and choice of topics could be effectively applied without it being perceived as cliquey and elitist or open to abuse by those who are already of the mind to stalk.

If you have friends on here you can e-mail/CAT/messenger them and it will remain private.

The problem with having a private section is that it would make the boards "cliquey" and could make "newbies" too intimidated to post. Without newbies it would just be a chat room and gradually the wealth of experience/knowledge that is MN would disappear.

MNHQ did tell a number of us on a thread related to our jobs that they were indeed considering some private spaces - so we could share our RL identities without revealing ourselves unwittingly to snooping colleagues.

But then the DM thing kicked off so suspect it got binned shelved.

I only care about the issue for that particular purpose. I am a bit for any other purpose.
