We're thinking of doing an MN Guide to Style and Beauty - but we can't do it without you!

We'd love you to post bestest, wittiest, most practical style/hair/beauty tips, secrets, rules, dos and don'ts on this thread.

Obviously, we're thinking "this will make you look good in the 13 seconds you have between getting up and getting the kids up", rather than "this will make you look good but takes six hours and £3000 to achieve".

wear your favourite outfit shopping. don't buy anything unless it looks better than what you're already wearing.

wear what makes you happy and screw what everyone else thinks.

and dittany is of course right re inner beauty/character (although i beg to differ on the shoes front, shoes that make you are worth having even if they don't quite fit... )

I've found personal grooming a lot harder since all the children are at school, funnily enough. It's easier when they are all around in the holidays and at weekends. We all look more buffed and polished then

and the famous piece of advice from someone

accessorise -then when you are about to leave remove one accessory

Oh yes, ear wax is vile - wash your ears with soap every day and dry with cotton buds, just in case.

Wear wellies whenever it rains so that you don't ruin your leather shoes.

There's a knock off Benetint in Superdrug, MeMeMe pussycat,or something. Paint it on your cheeks and you'll look like Aunt Sally you've been on a brisk walk, all day long.

Do not put cotton near your ears, ever. The fibres fall into your ears.

Wear an across the body bag so that both your hands/shoulders are properly free for holding children's hands/pushing pushchairs/carrying shopping. Contortions to keep your shoulder bag on are deeply unglamorous and cause back pain.

Buy a bra that fits, nobody needs 4 boobs.

There's not much that can't be put right with a pair of boob to knee control pants and a couple of glasses of champers

Sleep on your back unless you want a face and chest like corrugated cardboard

Don't look in the mirror first thing in the morning, steel yourself first.

Do not have roots showing. You are not Debbie Harry. You do not look cool.

don't wear farking brown long skirts they are so so ageing

Wrinkled Madonna type hands? Wear gloves.

Some stout clothes pegs on the arms of your pyjamas will stop any unauthorised rolling in the night

A very good LBD (actually I rather hate that phrase) black dress, is a must. Dress it up with heels and accessories, or dress it down with pumps.

Ooh yes, wear rubber gloves (Marigolds, or other lined ones) for every single household task. Put lots of handcream on last thing at night.
