Dear mumsnet

Can you please do a check and see if quickchange / getreal and shinyone are all the same person and if so can you have a private word or perhaps look into barring them.

Things like this usually are water off a ducks back to me personally but she/he/it risks really, really causing serious pain to reqular mumsnetters and I think it might be a good idea to look into this.

Just an idea.

If this person is changing her name all the time just to say spiteful, nasty, things on mumsnet surely we want that stopped, right??
Anyway, nuff said, over to you to do what you think is best.

Well I, for one, am pleased at the news!

JustineMumsnet · 06/06/2005 17:31

That was a case of fat fingers at mumsnet hq SM - really sorry about that because we've looked into it and aren't able to reinstate your thread. The fat-fingered member of us in question was supposed to have 'fessed up long ago - can't think why said person hasn't done it yet - after all what's a bit of public humiliation ?

huggybear · 06/06/2005 17:31

justine.

i just wanted her to read it and to understand.

huggy

huggybear · 06/06/2005 17:35

also, justine, i know you cant tell everyone who it was but can you let me know if they were warned from doing it again please.

thanks

sparklymieow · 06/06/2005 17:36

oh poo...... there was lots of info on that one..... plus I needed to go through it and log everything I hadn't written down..... oh well......

ladymuck · 06/06/2005 17:37

Justine, will this limit on usernames open up the door for the auction on previously used IDs that cod has been lobbying for forever? And what will happen to archived threads? If I have messages under a former id, does someone else get the option to nab that id because I choose to stick with the current one?

gaelsgirl · 06/06/2005 17:39

Will this be retrospective, or for any future namechangers?

MRSflamesparrow · 06/06/2005 17:40

I think that it should stick that a name cannot be used again - at least not for a year or so...

JoolsToo · 06/06/2005 17:48

good idea flame

SoupDragon · 06/06/2005 17:52

There are so many to choose from though

JJmumsnet · 06/06/2005 18:06

Hi all. Justine's nipped off for a bit, but will return later.

I am going to start a new thread on nickname changes - it would be very helpful to see hear everyone's concerns before we do it. As Justine mentioned, it is something that can easily be undone, so if it doesn't work out, not too much harm done. Ladymuck, I believe that only registered but unused (ie no posts on Talk) will be freed up for use again, if that happens at all. That way no one will be able to usurp anyone's previous identity.

Huggybear, thanks for your concerns, but these are better addressed by emailing us at [email protected] .

And sparklymieow, it wasn't me. Sorry about it though and hope things get sorted with your neighbours.

RTKangaMummy · 06/06/2005 18:11

Does this mean that my alteregos cannot come out to play for funfunfun on the ONLY JOKING thread???

They never ever are allowed to leave ONLY JOKING

Can't it be set that if you have posted for over 6 months you are allowed to have multiple personalities

roisin · 06/06/2005 18:14

I agree Justine. I think the time has come to limit name changing on mn for all the reasons you state.

RTKangaMummy · 06/06/2005 18:48

I don't know what quickchange or getreal or shinyone have said

BUT if they are actually 3 different people I don't see the point of the limit

LionTamer · 06/06/2005 18:59

i agree, lots of people have different email addresses and will just use an alternate one to sign up for a new nickname. IMO it won't solve anything.

huggybear · 06/06/2005 19:03

MUMSNET

have emailed you.

thanks
