Crunch question of the day

And this time it's not about quality, it's about quantity.

Is there a Lidl or an Aldi in your area, or both? Which do you reckon has more stores?

thanks

I think a couple of each tbh

TheFool · 09/07/2009 14:13

(are you really that bored that you can't even come up with a decent question like "mayo or ketchup with chips"?)

MommyUpNorth · 09/07/2009 14:48

2 Lidls (1 in each of the main towns), but no Aldi

TheProvincialLady · 09/07/2009 14:55

I have absolutely no idea whether there is an Aldi or a Lidl near me but as I live in a city I would expect so.

There are more Lidls than Aldis. Probably.

LouLovesAeroplaneJelly · 09/07/2009 14:56

We have an Aldi and a Lidl but they are about a 10 minute drive away in a shall we say less affluent part of town. I still shop at Aldi. Great bread and cereal!!

LouLovesAeroplaneJelly · 09/07/2009 14:56

Oh and mayo on chips

random · 09/07/2009 14:58

Both ..more Aldis then Lidls

procrastinatingparent · 09/07/2009 15:03

Neither. No Netto. No Asda either.

GeraldineMumsnet · 09/07/2009 15:16

Well the offfical answer is that there are "more than 700" ALdi stores in teh UK and "more than 400" Lidl stores.

TrillianAstra · 09/07/2009 15:59

There's an Aldi (but it's the completely wrong side of town) but no Lidl that I'm aware of. I don't really think of them as being different shops.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 09/07/2009 16:01

But some people will post talking about the same store so how will that tell you how many there are?

nickschick · 09/07/2009 16:04

Aldi is near but a lidl is about 4 miles away.

I think theres more aldi stores.

MaybeAfterBreakfast · 09/07/2009 16:05

Neither. Netto on the far side of town.

pigswithfludontfly · 09/07/2009 16:09

Hi,
I needed to know this recently and found the answer on Wikipedia...it lists the number of UK stores for both. Not sure how up to date it is though.

MrsMcCluskey · 09/07/2009 18:00

My Dad always tells the same sstory when we talk about Aldi
THat twwo brothers owned Aldis but they fell out
SO now one owns Aldi one owns Lidls
ANd wherever you see an ALdi the Lidl brother always opens a Lidl so that they are always in direct competition!

wed99 · 09/07/2009 20:26

Princessmel I think there is a Lidl in Hatfield that's quite near to us in sunny St A

whomovedmychocolate · 09/07/2009 20:30

Well there's an Aldi near us (well six miles away but that counts as near round here). No Lidl unless it's hiding.
