Truncated nicknames

Me being incredibly childish, I know, but one of the joys of MN is being able to change to a silly name for any occasion. I appreciate there's a restriction on the amount of characters in a nickname, but how come, even if my name passes the character count, it is truncated when I post?

It does make having a longer nickname a bit pointless as you can't even see it. I shall have to spend another 3 hours trying to think of something vaguely Gene Hunt related now.

KayHarker: the truncating is a MN New thing - long nicknames were causing massive (and annoying) white spaces on thread.

So now, in MN New (but not MN Classic), nicknames are automatically truncated after 25 characters.

We know it limits silly-nickname-changing a bit. But we're sure you're up to the challenge

I know, flowerybeanbag .

Sorry: the Techs just released a new thingummy and it's gone a bit over-enthusiastic on the truncating.

Give us a sec and nicknames will in future only ever truncate if..

  1. They are over 25 characters long
  1. They are over 20 characters long in a post at the top of the page - once the post moves down (if you're viewing threads last post first), the name will display in all its untruncated beauty.

at Margo.

Actually, you should stick with it and keep us all guessing...
