Question for Mumsnet Towers and Mnsnetters about a possible sport and exercise topic?

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/10/2008 10:24

It might just be me (in which case please ignore this request Mumsnet Towers) but I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in a sports and exercise topic under the "Health" heading or elsewhere on the site? And if so, if it would please be possible?

Currently, sport threads (a recent example would be the Olympics) either get posted under "other subjects" or "telly addicts" or exercise threads are posted under "weight loss club" or "general health".

There are lots of questions about power walking/running/pilates/yoga/horse-riding out there - to take just a few examples. Just thought it might be good if there was a specific place to accommodate them.

What does everyone else think?

I think that's a good idea tatt. I think when it was 'sport' it was avoided because if you're struggling to run round the block you don't consider yourself to be doing 'sport'

Twink · 18/10/2008 09:56

Exercise & Sport would be good as I so rarely get to MN these days that I get lost trying to find anything..

Agree, 'Sport and Exercise' in that order a very good idea

I'm a fat lazy cow too SheikYaB!

Thanks for all the latest replies

at the weekend boards tend to be quieter so need to bump this Monday. All the sports fans may be busy at weekends too!

unknownrebelbang · 18/10/2008 16:42

I'm sure there used to be a sports topic too.

I even posted a thread on it, I think.

(memory's not like it used to be, lol, obviously need some exercise to sharpen it up ).

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/10/2008 17:30

How are you?

BlessThisMess · 19/10/2008 22:07

I would like it. Have recently started running and amazingly am enjoying it so might even consider other forms of exercise too.

tatt · 20/10/2008 09:17

bumping it shamelessly - although a lot of people may not be in work yet.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 20/10/2008 09:20

I think it is a good idea..

Countingthegreyhairs · 20/10/2008 10:28

um, Ghosty darlin', I think you may be on the wrong thread ... although agree wholeheartedly!!!

We want comps for overseas posters !!!

Ahem, back to matter in hand, calling all mountain climbers, hang-gliderers, in-line skaters, pole-vaulters, extreme tiddly-winkers ...

Vote here for sport & exercise thread!

Ah yes and isn't Lewis Hamilton doing well ...

Oh sorry Ghosty - bit slow on the uptake there - I can see it was a deliberate ploy on your part to get the campaign noticed!!

Bumping for you (and if you happen to like sport, please don't hold back either....)

Thank you everyone for yet more replies ...

Twink - I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through - have posted on your other thread. Wishing you strength. x

My pleasure Ghosty (er, just out of interest, what IS a "mincer" btw ??)

Calling all synchronised swimmers, divers, bungee-jumpers, croquet players ... please add your vote here ...

I'm not into sport but I am into exercise. There are exercise threads I've noticed all over the place, would be good to have them all in one place.

Countingthegreyhairs · 21/10/2008 18:05

Um, hallloo Geraldine, have we accrued enough interest/votes yet?

OP posts:
Pan · 21/10/2008 18:11

another vote here! I do running/weights/swimming mainly, and have done for years. I don't know everything [modest emocion] and would love to be able to swop tips and motivation in this section....

Countingthegreyhairs · 27/10/2008 15:44

Um, now I'm back from my latest marathon chocolate biscuit eating session, oops, I meant my 78th iron woman competition, any thoughts on this please Mumsnet Towers??

A reasonably good and positive response I thought. But is it enough to justify an exercise and sport thread (she said crossing fingers, toes and dumbells)?

OP posts:
JustScreamMumsnet · 28/10/2008 14:18

Oh go on then - but we reserve the right to delete it again if, despite your good intentions you all go off the rails, don't do any exercise and therefore and don't use it (or is that just me who does that?)

GeraldineMumsnet · 28/10/2008 14:49

It's live and kicking here

Countingthegreyhairs · 29/10/2008 23:14

Ooooooo - sorry have visitors staying - only just seen this - thank you, thank you, thank you all at Mumsnet Towers ....!!!

Noted about back-sliding!!
