Some fairly vile posts flying around today and it's notable that reports of these are not being read.

😂

Perhaps the racist incels have infiltrated mumsnet HQ and that's why reports are being ignored!

And come call me a nincompoop to my face you lily-livered stock fish!

Off with your head for such balderdash!

I always thought "berk" was quite benign but it is short for "Berkshire Hunt" rhyming slang 😲😲
Let's just add here "Do you eat with that potty mouth"?

Omg! My 82yr old mother uses ‘Berk’ all the time and HATES the C word so im going to enjoy telling her this 🤩

Lovely Portsmouth word!

I seem to have attached the wrong bit of the quote - what a dinlo!

Hi there @AssassinsEyebrow. No late start at MNHQ - we've been flat out like a lizard drinking all morning. 🏃

We’ve also replied to several of your reports today, and you’ve replied to those messages, so we’re genuinely not sure which reports you believe have been ignored. If there’s a particular one you’re still waiting to hear about, please let us know.

It’s worth saying that some calls are straightforward while others require us to read the wider thread or look more carefully at the poster and context. That can take a bit longer, but it’s important that we make the right decision rather than simply the quickest one.

AssassinsEyebrow · 08/09/2026 11:22

@BeckyAMumsnet thanks for posting - I have followed up saying that reports had been dealt with and I appreciate the fact that they have :)

Some of the comments were so egregious that it was a point of concern that there seemed to be an unusual delay in moderators responding. I've seen many times in the last year posters talk about how unsafe they're starting to feel on this forum and the worst of the comments I reported were generating spiralling responses on those threads.

I posted here to flag to the MN team and had hoped that the lighthearted tone would show that it wasn't criticism of MN, believing that posting on Site Stuff was the appropriate way to escalate a matter.

Thanks @AssassinsEyebrow Site stuff is a perfectly reasonable place to raise wider concerns. We're currently dealing with a very high volume of reports and so may not be getting back to people as quickly as we usually do but we will get to everyone's report.

AssassinsEyebrow · 08/09/2026 11:31

Actually kind of reassuring that so many people have been reporting widely today.

I wonder why 'lily livered' is an insult. It sounds so nice, even romantic -

My love is like a red, red rose,
His liver is a lily.
Like daisies are his little toes,
A thistle is his willy.

It's Shakespeare, darling 😉

"Lily" had associations of femininity- and therefore weakness, cowardice etc. The liver was fundamental to the four-humors which was their idea of medical science and from the liver originated hot temper and anger.

Er, I mean, what do you want, a medal? Or a chest to pin it on?

AppleButterGutter · 08/09/2026 12:10

@UnpopularOpinionsIWouldUsuallyKeepToMyself

How dare you "chest shame" me!

I have a medal (from the Prime Minister) I'll have you know.

I love this thread, and I promise I do get the joke. But there’s a little tiny part of me that feels uncomfortable reading you all being so “rude” to each other 😮

Don’t be such a sap 😄
