Can MN confirm there is no flooding of alleged Reform bots?

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 09/06/2026 14:26

I find it hard to believe bots would post on this site anyway. Sigh. But the repeated accusations from what I assume are extreme left wing posters of so called "Reform bots" to anyone who might offer a counter opinion, is both wearying and juvenile (imo).

(Notable that this same accusation is rarely - if ever - found to be made in the opposite direction).

Please can MN confirm to all that "Reform bots" are not flooding the site?

I agree. A lot of carefully worded posts with "talking points" straight from the Musk "bring the UK down in flames" playbook. Though I am not sure if that is how you define a bot, I certainly don't think a lot of OPs (thread starters) are sincere.

However I am willing to believe a lot of the replies supporting the OP are indeed genuine posters. I disagree with them but what distressed me is the feeling that someone/ ones like musk, putin etc are deliberately undermining UK society.

If MN had a way of weeding out these what are effectively promotional posts, it would be good, but I very much doubt that can be done.

Sorry for clarity i didn't mean I thought this thread's OP (@dangerrhino) was a bot, despite the trendy username formulation. Just that there do seem to be a suspicious number of threads with bot-sounding (to me) OPs. If by 'bot' we mean 'a person or algorithm funded by a political actor, as opposed to someone who is just posting from their heart'

Labour have talking points that get repeated. Every party does.

Snorlaxo · 10/06/2026 09:09

It costs money to pay for bots and I doubt that parties like the Greens can afford them.

There’s definite AI posts on here and I try not to engage but I get sucked in.

I don’t think that MN will do anything about bots torch. Engagement is good for online businesses after all.

People repeat party lines paid or not, it’s just how politics is.

Well if bots are inevitable then why are there apparently only right wing bots?

Are all bots not equal?

The left wing bots exist too - the idea is to magnify division and polarize people so they don't find common ground. Easier then to destroy trust and to inflame tension and hate, which all makes people/society easier to manipulate.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 10/06/2026 09:23

crackofdoom · 09/06/2026 20:25

The Green Party probably can't afford bots.

Reform however- the political party whose donations have dwarfed those of all other parties in recent years-....🤔

They're not tired of emigration you know. More Brits are leaving the UK than legal immigrants are coming.

Oh my goodness my username is potentially under the microscope now! It wasn't suggested - I came up with it myself (possibly from spending too much time on here??)

But that is a crazy new direction.

Op even from the posts on this thread you can see what you’re up against 🤷‍♀️

Most people just can’t be bothered to fight them when they enter a thread enmasse. It’s too exhausting.

fartotheleftside · 10/06/2026 10:03

I don’t think there are bots necessarily. But reform have a guerilla social media marketing plan and that will absolutely include mumsnet, along with all the other usual social media platforms. I’m suspicious of every single pro-reform or anti-immigration post on here.

You are certainly not a bot, but the structure of the user name you chose is one that appears quite often in bot posts.

ViciousCurrentBun · 10/06/2026 10:07

Politics has just become extremely polarised and anyone remotely centrist will keep their head down because they are a target of both sides. It’s dire currently. I loathe both sides on the extremes in equal measure.

RollOnSunshine · 10/06/2026 10:08

Lefties have always lacked an ability to understand that many people have a differing political stance to their own.

I mean. The fact is, Reform is one of the largest parties now, voted for by very many people in the general population at the recent local elections. Their popularity is growing everywhere not just in the UK.

This will be reflected on MN. I really don't believe the large number of right wing posters means there are a large number of paid for bots, or guerilla posters - they are quite simply genuine supporters - because the really do exist in this world (and in your own neighbourhood - online AND offline).

Please elaborate. Which bit of the OP do you think I failed to understand?

She was asking MN to confirm that the large number of posters on MN expressing support for Reform were not bots, because she believes that there are actually many people who genuinely hold these views and it is therefore inappropriate for those who hold different views to simply dismiss them as bots.

I was agreeing with her that the Reform-supporting posts are probably not bots because that there are genuinely lots of people who are stupid and racist enough to hold these far right views. Unfortunately.

So please tell me which bit of the OP's post do you think I failed to understand? I presume that you understand that I can have a different assessment from the OP regarding the rights and wrongs of voting Reform while simultaneously agreeing that their supporters are sadly real people?

Looking at the thread - it's already been explained numerous times to you.

So you can't actually explain it at all? Perhaps because you've realised that you were talking nonsense in your earlier post?

ETA please do point me towards the posts which specifically explain what exactly you think I have misunderstood. Because I can't see a single one. Probably because I didn't actually misunderstand anything in the first place.

What do you mean? Where else is Reform popular? It doesn't exist as a party anywhere else?

They tend to get angry and lash out see pp.

Mn isn’t just for Labour supporters these days.

If you're going to accuse others of being 'thick' it's probably best not to be a bit 'thick' yourself.

Thankfully, I am not afflicted by stupidity.

I note that you have been consistently unable to evidence or explain your point. Whether or not you have realised that it wasn't valid in the first place is hard to know. It doesn't really matter in any case.

That was for anyone pretty much not voting Labour in June 2024

It’s usually bot, thick or other

In future, best not to call people thick :)

"Everyone else explained it to me"... and yet you can't point to a single post in which this actually happened.

I will call people stupid if they behave in stupid ways.
