Stop bringing the talk board down for maintenance when the clearly important Aussie Crowd are trying to use it

arfishy · 21/06/2008 06:48

It keeps happening. Just STOP IT NOW.

I refuse to believe that you cannot move service to a little tiny emergency backup server which can support the 5 of us while you do stuff to the boards.

It's very stressful. I've had to engage with my family and everything.

AND the UK insomniacs. This never used to happen at this hour. of Oxford.

UnderRated · 21/06/2008 06:51

AND the US contingent

I had to do paperwork and all sorts

laura032004 · 21/06/2008 06:58

I've spent a fortune on Ebay recently whilst MN is down. Think I can claim compensation?

Oh my word. This is a much bigger issue than I'd originally thought.

I'm thinking of refusing to post the photos of the Sydney meet-up in protest.

US contingent should immediately stop posting craft supplies to the UK.

Insomniacs boycott the 'am I in labour' threads at 3am.

Do you think MN towers don't care? They haven't even come on to apologise profusely and tell us how much they value our night-time wisdom and support. I was expecting flowers and everything by now

[dejected]

arfishy · 21/06/2008 15:30

Hmmm. I completely agree Under.

I'm particularly upset at the fact that you had to do paperwork.

Hello there,
Erm... not quite sure what Techs are up to but will make sure to find out and see if we can stop it.

In the meantime very sorry to all our Aussies, Yanks and insomniacs.

suzywong · 21/06/2008 15:57

and sort out some competitions we can enter, while you're at it

thank you

UnderRated · 21/06/2008 16:03

Oh good, Justine. It really isn't on, you know. I am still recovering.

UnderRated · 21/06/2008 16:09

Perhaps, if we could have a bit of warning, we might take it better? Like when you have to warn the DC that they only have a few minutes left so they can work up to a huge tantrum prepare themselves mentally for an upcoming transition.

Me: We'll have to leave the park in 10 minutes
DS: Ok

Me: DC, 5 minutes left
DS: ok

Me: Ok, we have to go in 1 minute, have 1 more go on something
DS: ok

Me: Time to go now
DS: WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ok mummy, thank you for letting me know. Now I will hold your hand and leave the park with no fuss at all.

Thanks Justine [heads back into the depths of active convos and ignores family]

I think they read this and decided to have it go down even more than before. Or are they just punishing me?

arfishy · 25/06/2008 06:17

I got that impression yesterday too Dooneygirl. I wasn't going to make any accusations though, because I was mucking about with working on the broadband.

I had lots of trouble this morning too

OP posts:
eidsvold · 25/06/2008 06:17

oh thankfully I was out and did not need to check up on your arfishy.

yes my thought too miss suzy. I noticed we are getting aussie adverts - can you not encourage dyson to do a trial here - I could do with a dyson, or a new fridge or ...

arfishy · 25/06/2008 06:34

I'm not getting Aussie adverts. At the moment I've got Boden, '3', Cheestrings and TCP.

Although at least Boden ships to Australia.

OP posts:
eidsvold · 25/06/2008 22:26

right up the top get anz and nab credit card ads.

boden etc down the bottom.

eidsvold · 25/06/2008 22:27

or westfield ones

JustineMumsnet · 25/06/2008 23:17

Have done a wee bit of digging (asked YetMoreTech) and basically we back the site up every night so that we don't lose all your pearls of wisdom should disaster strike and occasionally we also do a bit of maintenance work too (say once a month). There are various overnight jobs, some of which hold things up for a few minutes at a time. The biggest tasks start at 4:03 UK time, which is timed to coincide with our quietest time in terms of users.

Sorry for the inconvenience to all our Mumsnetters from Down Under/ insomniacs - hope, given your superior climate and quality of life, you can live with it?

dooneygirl · 25/06/2008 23:53

A FEW minutes at a time is fine, but the almost entirety of my prime MNing time is just too much to bear. It would figure that my time when I can get on in peace coincides with your server backup.

You gave your platitudes to the Down Under/insomniacs on the site, but what about those of us who come pretty close to sharing a climate with you 3 seasons out of the year? I guess I'll live anyway.

(Puts on best martyr face)

Thanks, Cali.
I think.

I'll be there with you in 2 days. Supposed to hit 100 here, then. I hope that isn't considered good weather, because I sure don't look at it that way.

arfishy · 26/06/2008 00:41

Ah yes, I'm seeing the NAB one now.

04:03 eh? Aha, that's 1:03pm, which of course is the time I'm most likely to be sitting eating a sandwich and catching up.

What approx time is that US team?

And it's WINTER here in Sydney. It's sodding cold, although I acknowledge that I am now a wuss and it's still about 19' but I'm wearing jeans! And A COAT.

[shivers pathetically]
