Stop bringing the talk board down for maintenance when the clearly important Aussie Crowd are trying to use it

It keeps happening. Just STOP IT NOW.

I refuse to believe that you cannot move service to a little tiny emergency backup server which can support the 5 of us while you do stuff to the boards.

It's very stressful. I've had to engage with my family and everything.

Erm... not quite sure what Techs are up to but will make sure to find out and see if we can stop it.

Have done a wee bit of digging (asked YetMoreTech) and basically we back the site up every night so that we don't lose all your pearls of wisdom should disaster strike and occasionally we also do a bit of maintenance work too (say once a month). There are various overnight jobs, some of which hold things up for a few minutes at a time. The biggest tasks start at 4:03 UK time, which is timed to coincide with our quietest time in terms of users.

Sorry for the inconvenience to all our Mumsnetters from Down Under/ insomniacs - hope, given your superior climate and quality of life, you can live with it?

Hi all, Sorry the backup is causing you grief. We do try to keep the shutdown time to a minimum.

We could set up something to capture any messages that people try to post at that time, but unfortunately it would be quite a big piece of work to set that up so we're unlikely to get to it soon. (hides)

Just by the by, if your post fails you can often hit "back" and see it still sitting in the message box (Unfortunately I don't think internet explorer supports this, but other browsers do.) Then you can cut/paste and save it to post later. It's not ideal, but might be better than losing the post altogether.
