Why was the Gaza toddler Sky News thread deleted, and which guidelines?

Hi MNHQ
I was just on a thread about a wounded toddler in Gaza but there was a warning from a poster that it would soon be deleted, then lo and behold it was gone. Can you explain which guidelines were breached, as I'm mystified. It was just posters commenting on a story that's on Sky News and elsewhere.

This website is anything but "Honest".

Who are they?

hazelberry · 27/03/2026 22:45

MN should absolutely not host fake news threads.

gamerchick · 27/03/2026 22:48

Because it's weird that people want to watch videos of bairns being tortured?

Who are they?

A pro-Israeli group that has been called out for dangerous lies in the past.

MN should absolutely not host fake news threads.

Why not, if the thread then gives posters the opportunity to comment on why it's fake news and linking their evidence?
Isn't this deletion effectively censorship and/or a lack of trust in posters to engage in enlightened and informed debate on what is clearly an emotive subject?

Am I missing something here? I've not previously engaged with any of the Gaza threads.

There was a video of the child being tortured on the thread???!!!

From ChatGPT.

Bottom line:

  • The toddler and his injuries appear to be real.
  • But the cause of the wounds (torture vs. shrapnel vs. something else) is disputed and not conclusively proven.

The ball's in your court @MNHQ

MN should absolutely not host fake news threads.

There’s enough of that stuff in X and other sites.

A pro-Israeli group that has been called out for dangerous lies in the past.

Is there proof this is a dangerous lie though?

Or is there a neutral article about the story?

BedlamEveryday · 28/03/2026 07:19

Have you actually read this?

It doesn’t confirm the story is fake. It’s trying to persuade people that it is.

Considering the website and its motive, they are hardly trustworthy.

MN should absolutely not host fake news threads.

Apart from websites whose aim is to improve Israel’s reputation, there’s no suggestion that this is fake news?

HollyBluIvy · 28/03/2026 07:24

Is the story true? Nadia Swahala did a post about this on her instagram and she is usually very well informed of things.

MissyB1 · 28/03/2026 07:24

Sorry I didn’t see previous thread, but Channel 4 news reported on this toddler last night. They interviewed the Dr that treated him, she clearly stated he had cigarette burns and an entry and exit wound from something sharp.

UniquePinkSwan · 28/03/2026 07:25

This is why I don’t watch the news. I don’t trust it to be true. We are all fed propaganda

There’s enough of that stuff in X and other sites.

My point though, is that this story has not been proven to be either true or fake, so why label it fake on MN (if that's the reason for it being deleted)?

Looking at it another way, let's remove this particular content and ask instead:
In cases of disputed information, does @MNHQ decide which is real and which not?

perhaps mnhq could clarify why the thread was removed.

I don't know, I swerve those threads after venturing into one where people were actively asking for links to videos of dead babies.

It's weird. Why do you want to see that stuff so much?

Yes I read it, which is why I posted it

I have no idea of whether they are 'trustworthy' or not

The issue here is, that anything that is either Israeli, Jewish, from Israel is deemed not trustworthy and anything that comes from anywhere else seems to be trustworthy

Who knows?

As someone said, Ive given up trying to decipher which is true or not as its all propaganda.

Lemonlettuce · 28/03/2026 07:40

I also commented on that thread last night and then poof it was gone…

dairydebris · 28/03/2026 07:46

It was obviously going to degenerate into the usual bunfight with half of the posters saying everything anyone Jewish says is a lie and that the IDF are baby torturers, and the other half saying otherwise... totally understand why it was removed.

MyThreeWords · 28/03/2026 07:51

Either the story itself is fake news, or the discrediting of it is fake news. Whichever of these is the case, picking over it on a chat forum isn't functioning as genuine political discussion. It is just red meat for the hungry mouths of people who want to turn a devastating conflict into fodder for their righteous and tribal social media activity

People who want to ruminate online about this can get as worked up as they like, they can experience themselves as passionate advocates for justice and accountability, but really they are passing time on the internet by chatting about the alleged torture of a child.

I'd be happy for MN to delete threads that exploit tragedy in this way, regardless of whether the story is true or not.

And that’s a separate conversation in itself but by posting a link to a website that claims the story is fake news, in response to someone asking why a thread about the story was removed, does come across as though you’re pushing the narrative that it’s fake…

Barbie222 · 28/03/2026 08:04

What @MyThreeWordssaid. I agree that the deletion of the thread was a necessary and justified action by MN.
